Guest guest
My husband’s last GI did one when he was diagnosed (nearly 2 yrs ago). It was explained to us that stints weren’t an option at that time because there was stricturing (is that the right term??) of all of his bile ducts- not just the main ones. We have since changed GI’s. My husband’s blood tests all show everything is fine and he is asymptomatic, and until that changes- he has no intentions of doing another ERCP. He says that there are risks involved with the ERCP and there is no point in doing it if my husband is doing well. Especially because the stricturing isn’t going to go away- there is no option as far as stints. Also- my husband had pretty severe pain after the first one- so he is in no hurry to have another any time soon. I guess every doctor has their reasons and beliefs for doing them more regularly. Every case is different. I know we are relatively at the beginning at this journey and there will probably be more to come, but right now we are happy to have a doctor that doesn’t want to poke and prod when unnecessary. My MRCPs seem to show what we need to know since I have not needed a stent yet.......
