Since he is already there I have him come in with me as an extra set of “ears”, in case I miss something during the conversation. I have noticed that “we” as a couple are treated differently than when I just went in alone. And because of this I think I have gotten better care and my husband has even found a couple of doctors he actually likes. nne, as of recent, my husband told me he is not going to let me go to anymore appts by myself. It's really hard, but he's been trying to work his schedule in such a way to go with me. It truly makes a big difference having him there. I feel like the doctors not only take me more seriously, but they take more time answering questions. I think it's a good idea to take someone with you, if you are able to. I realize that is not always the case...but it sure helps... Not only is it good for the whole support issue, but when you are nervous or scared you 'might' not hear everything the doc says. We need to think of some good tips and find more ways to help each other. Anybody have any other good suggestions? ~Chelle

And I have him hold my hand when they take my BP! it helps keep it low! He did meet my new specialist as well as the other two before her. I think it helps when they know the husband is supportive. Also, when they get a visual impression of the husband, my opinion is it helps them understand what you are dealing with at home on a personal level. Also, the husband understands the condition and WHO the doctor is. So there are four good reasons to take significant other: l. they can drive, 2. keeps your BP down when he holds your hand, 3. Gives doctor a better understanding of your personal situation. 4. Husband understands condition and doctor hugs, ML
