Guest guest
I think that this article represents an exciting new discovery relevant to potentially all autoimmune diseases involving IgG antibodies (this is an Open Access article): Collin M, O, Björck L 2008 IgG glycan hydrolysis by a bacterial enzyme as a therapy against autoimmune conditions. Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A. Mar 10 [Epub ahead of print] http://www.pnas.org/cgi/content/abstract/0711271105v1 The authors show an application of the method in curing immune-mediated thrombocytopenia (low platelets!) in a mouse model. But in principle it could be applicable to many other autoimmune diseases. Some that come to mind would be IgG4-asspciated autoimmune pancreatitis, and the type of autoimmune sclerosing cholangitis associated with elevated IgG4.
