From following the autism mercury group for several years I can tell

you that your gut won't heal until you chelate a certain amount of the

mercury out. Parents usually report that the kid's gut starts to heal

and they can even introduce foods that were previously not tolerated

after a certain amount of chelation.

When you get Andy's " Amalgam Illness " book start with the section on p

133 about supplements. You will need to start introducing

supplements. Choose ones that have no additives if you can find them

(I buy some supplements in bulk and make my own capsules or add the

powder to blender drinks). Some of those supplements are essential

for healing from the damage that the mercury causes. Some are

absolutely essential for gut healing - like Mg, omega 3 oils (fish or

flax), glutamine, glycine.

If you find that there is a supplement that you can't tolerate right

now, set it aside for later.

There is a file in the files section here " Diet - how to pick the

right one for your kid " . It may be helpful to have a look at that.

It's not like one diet suits all - each person has to determine what

diet is right for them. An IgG IgE food panel might help you to

determine which foods to avoid. Digestive enzymes might help you

(lots of talk about those in autism mercury). Lots of probiotics are

needed to establish some beneficial organisms - as I said before the

SCD yogurt is wonderful for this, and if you can't tolerate cow or

goat milk it is possible to make it from nut milks.

If you use google and search for specific carbohydrate diet you will

get the main site. When I was having gut problems the **beginner**

SCD fixed me up almost immediately. It's worth looking at.

> Can I chelate with anything other than DMPS AND DMSA??

There is one other chelator and that is alpha lipoic acid. It has to

be taken in small doses every 3 h or more frequently. It is the only

chelator that crosses the blood brain barrier, so has to be introduced

at some point to take mercury out of the brain.

I suggest that you may find chelation with a combination of DMPS and

ALA most helpful, starting with DMPS alone to clear out the body

burden somewhat before introducing ALA. DMPS is reported to be

easiest on the gut (only when it is used properly!). You will need a

practitioner to prescribe the DMPS (there are a couple of names in the

files section, or you can split the capsules that the other doctor

prescribed).

Chelation with DMPS, DMSA, and ALA is the only way to get better and

is easy and safe when done properly. Most docs have no clue about

chelation but repeat what others (who also have no clue) have told

them and they make lots of people lots worse. Andy is the expert. If

in doubt read his books, search the archives for his posts, or ask him

directly.

Be sure to read through the files and links sections here.
