Life after VVS Surgery

Hi there,

I had my complete vulvar vestibulectomy with perinial grapht and vaginal advancement in May of 2001. It took me about a year before I was what I considered to be 100% recovered (wearing tight jeans and having sex whenever I wanted too). After about 6 months I was able to have intercourse again. But I took it slowly.

As for pain post procedure...I do still have some mild flare ups and there are still some times occasionally when sex will irritate it a little, but for the most part I would say I am 85-90% better than when I went in. I had LS in addition to the VVS so I blame that for my remainder irritation which I have pretty well controlled with Estrace and Temovate.

There have been a couple times when I had a bit more of a flare up for a short period of time. After each pregnancy (I had two miscarriages and one beautiful daughter), and after a cortisone injection to my back. All of these times I was able to get things back under control with the addition of Vagifem for a month or less.

I guess I would tell anyone thinking about the surgery that there is no garuntee that the pain will be compleatly eliminated. In fact that may be unreasonable for many. However the pain for me after 8 years of suffering was reduced dramaticly and I would not hesitate if I went back in time to do it over again.

I hope this helps. If you ever want to email me privatly with any questions go right ahead. I know how hard it is to find successes stories on support groups and I believe I consider my surgery a sucess.
