Guest guest
Esther, since your story sounds so familiar to things I've experienced, I'll share some of my thoughts & experiences. Several practitioners commented over the years, before starting chelation, about my 'congested' liver. No amount of detox seemed to bring it down much (it actually 'bulged' out from my ribs while standing). When I added low levels of ALA, to which I'm terribly sensitive, to my DMSA chelation rounds, things started to loosen up very quickly, and lots of swelling & inflammation set in with my stomache & upper portion of the small intestine. I wasn't a stranger to a lot of gassiness, indigestion, and bloating in this area...it had been a problem for a couple decades. Gallbladder tests didn't show any problems, but I suspected ALA had been releasing stones and/or bacterial organisms via bile into my GI tract, leading to a very severe bout of inflammation. I stopped chelating for 6-8 weeks to allow for healing, and rather than turn to anything harsh, chose to try a bowel cleanse that utilizes lots of tumeric, fennel, and other things over the course of a few days to kill off various infectious bacterial organisms. My instincts were apparently correct (and my doctor looked at me like I was nuts when I suggested I thought maybe it was something bacterial), because the cleanse cleared the problem completely. My liver congestion went way down and I'm strangely free of any type of indigestion. I did the cleanse in early May. Many people suggest the digestive problems are candida/fungal. I've dealt with plenty of that and must remain on guard for it, but for what had lingered with me, a focus on candida no longer made sense. After rapidly losing about 5 pounds while doing the actual cleanse, I've continued to slowly lose a few more pounds, am digesting fats (!) and don't seem to have the need for digestive enzymes that I had previously. I believe ALA has some very powerful action in the liver, which is a good reason to take it in very low doses starting out. Not only was it helping my liver release toxins, I expect it opened up some channels in my liver that allowed it to purge some very old & well established bacteria. Like you, I avoid sugar and all the other processed white flours, etc. My diet is mostly organic vegetables, meats, gluten-free grains, vegetarian dishes, berries and a few other fruits, and fats are typically limited to high quality olive, grapeseed, cocoanut & safflower/sunflower oils. Wheat, dairy, yeast, and nuts are all indigestible for me and I'm certain they always had been. If you are interested in the bowel cleanse, I found it in a book by Hulda called 'The Cure for All Diseases'. Some of the information there is a nice companion to the intense mercury detox info Andy provides, especially if you are trying to get to the source of your symptoms.
