Guest guest
Richelle, I have been pondering doing the stenting procedure upon recommendation from my doctor at Mayo Clinic. Dr. Gores explained to me that the stents would by necessity need to be replaced every 4-6 weeks over the course of a 6 months period (can you say HUGE COMMITMENT?) because they are prone to become clogged otherwise. The hope is that after being in place over the course of 6 months they can be removed for good and the passage will stay open for some length of time. At the moment I'm doing some better and taking a wait and see approach...not sure if that's smart. Wish you the best with the procedure. I would be interested to know how it goes and your progress as a result. Jeff in FL I'm due to get a stent(s) put in on 11th June. I was under the impression that this would be a one off and that I wouldn't have to have it done again. Not that my dr gave me that impression, it is just what I thought would happen. Having read a few posts this is not the case as most people seem to have to get restented. I want to know if there is anyone out there that has been stented once and hasn't had to have it done again. Thanks.RichelleNew ZealandPS , I will reply to your email. Wondering what's for Dinner Tonight? Get new twists on family favorites at AOL Food. Guest guest
> > ..... I want to know if > there is anyone out there that has been stented once and hasn't had to > have it done again. Thanks. ========================= I have been stented only once -- November 2001. I was told that the stent absolutely must not stay in place for more than 6-7 weeks as it would become clogged and lead to major infection. It was removed after 6 weeks. In 2003, my dr. dilated (stretched) the main duct as it was beginning to shut down again. All had stayed very stable until this last month or two (cholangitis attack put me in the hospital April 11-21, and the attack, though now much less severe is still continuing with some pain, nausea & low-grade fever). So, yes it is not unheard of to be stented only once and then do well for a considerable period of time. It may not be typical, but it is indeed quite possible. Guest guest
Thanks for the replies to this. I've emailed my gastro with a few questions and I might change my mind about having the operation. I need more answers from them than what I am getting at the moment. > > Richelle, > > I have been pondering doing the stenting procedure upon recommendation from > my doctor at Mayo Clinic.
