My hep has just prescribed Questran for me, for the itching. I'd like

to hear from folks who have taken it--did it work for you? What are

your experiences with it? Is this a completely non-systemic medicine,

or is some absorbed?

I've been tanning for several weeks now, with no relief from the

itching (which is starting to keep me up at nights again--time to do

something). I failed Naltrexone after night terrors and suicidal

thoughts the first night I took it. Doc wants to try this; Rifampin is

the next step, if this doesn't work.

Thanks all,

Genevieve

Hi Genevieve,

My Hep. prescribed Questran to me about 6 months ago for itching. I

discussed the alternative drugs with him and he said Questran is the

least toxic option. I found it hard to take at first but now I don't

mind. I mix it with orange or cranberry juice and use a miniature hand

mixer to beat it up into a froth.

I also got a referral to a dermatologist to see if he could offer more

help with the itching. He prescribed limited spectrum UV therapy 3

times per week or at least six weeks. He said he has had good success

using UV therapy with people with cholestatic liver disease. I've heard

from others in this group that UV works for them. I'll report back

after I've had the treatments.

I took it years ago to help with my UC-related constant diarrhea. I seem to

recall getting

horse pills that I had to take with lots of water as well. I'm planning on

asking my Hep

about getting a prescription for it again.

-- I look forward to hearing about the UV therapy. I generally find I

come out of

remission in the fall/winter and it makes sense that it is related to the lack

of daylight/UV

exposure.
