Guest guest
First of all, Dan doctors are specialists who don't see children for 10 min like the average pediatric doctor. Instead of seeing 10 patients in one hour, they see ONE, and focus on every aspect of that one child, diet, blood work, stool samples, behavior symptoms, virus too much too list here. Essentially they are getting paid significantly less, and many have the same credentials. Secondly, much of what Dan's do are not accepted by the mainstream medical community. When they begin to take insurance they are inevitably open to scrutiny and this can cause many problems. For example, when I went to my regular pediatrician and complained that my son was still drooling uncontrollably until almost the age of 4 and always had mushy stools, he said " Yes, yes, this is JUST his autism " and brushed me off. The Dan doctor, on the other hand was able to do extensive testing and tell me which foods to remove from his diet. After years of horrible drooling, he stopped drooling within 3 days, and his behavior changed significantly. He didn't look like he was foggy and drunk-like. A mainstream medical doctor would never tell me that diet can help ASD children, because it has not been approved by the American board of pediatrics. They don't believe that environment can cause a big part of why my child has to be on a restrictive diet. This is just a VERY small example. it is so much more complicated than just that. It sucks that biomedical treatment does not come cheap. Many of these doctors are pioneering new treatments that noone else will touch becuase it has to go through 20 yrs of being tested, researched and approved. Many parents don't have 20 years to waste. There not only has to be new research but a whole shift in the way autism is veiwed in the medical community as a whole. That is going to take a looong time. I personally am grateful that there are people enough brave enough to at least try. They can be working anywhere else and making more money. But they are choosing to take on our cause and help our kids. Not saying all of them are saints, and many do look for how to make money, but MANY are in it to make a difference in these kids and their families lives. > > I totally agree.
