Guest guest
I know Elaine lists whey protein powder as illegal, but her explanation (from website) sounded a bit tentative or admittedly not fully researched. I'm wondering if there's been any update? My nd recommended it, said their product was casein-free. thanks, tom ibs
Guest guest
Tom, There might be a solution for you. Here’s my experience with whey proteins. I am one of those who manages to live a normal life, and barely escaped being cut by surgeons thanks to Elaine, her book, Marilyn, and this amazing group of people. I used to use whey protein powder before for sports and nutrition purposes. After 2 years of Crohn’s and SCD book discovery, I realized I have zero tolerance to lactose, and very little tolerance to grains and sugar etc. Of course I had to give up taking my whey protein supplement. If you are/were into sports, you understand why we need fast digesting protein WITHIN 15 minutes of workouts. Obviously eating tuna, beef etc. is not as effective due to long digestion delays in stomach. So I did some research on the net with the hypothesis that given how common lactose intolerance is, how do other fitness and sports enthusiasts do it. The answer, at least for me, was in the form of 100% Whey protein isolate. It’s whey protein powder with all its fast digesting benefits, but from which lactose has been removed using cross-flow micro-filtration membranes. There are several lactose intolerant athletes who use this product, and you will find reviews by them at the amazon link below. I am so intolerant to lactose, that even if drink half a cup, I get instant diarrhea, same with my pre-crohn’s whey protein powder. But, this new one! Wow, I experimented with it starting with 1tsp per day, and gradually have increased it to one full scoop (recommended dosage by my brand), with absolutely no side effects. I feel great, and am able to return to my previous levels of fitness. This is truly God-Sent! Please don’t take it as endorsement, or encouragement to cheat. We are all unique individuals and make our choices depending on what’s important to us. Feeling good by being in good physical shape is so important to me, that I was willing to try something, and that too very gradually. I am fortunate that it works for me. I monitor my diet and body very closely, and would drop whey protein in a second if I saw any negative signs. Other than this Whey protein, I am 100% SCD. You know your body best, and your priorities best. Make your own call, and see what works for you. The brand I use is “NOW 100% Pure Whey Protein Isolate”. It’s available at amazon.com. If you do decide to use it, please share your experiences here. In any case, please go slow, start very very gradually, and stop right away at first signs of trouble. I apologize if people feel that I am encouraging dangerous practices. Just wanted to share my experience, and let other adults make their own choice. Good luck and Best regards, -Ritesh PS: The usual disclaimer. I am not a doctor, this is not professional advice. Just sharing my experience. Please consult a professional before making any dietary decisions.
