MIAMI HERALD SILVER KNIGHTS AWARD WINNER CHOOSES

FARA’S PLACE, A DAY PROGRAM FOR YOUNG ADULTS WITH DISABILITIES

AS RECIPIENT OF HIS AWARD

Boynton Beach, September, 2012… A golfing tournament to benefit Fara’s Place, a nonprofit day program for young adults with disabilities, will be held September 28th, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. at the Deer Creek golf club in Deerfield Beach, FL and it’s all thanks to one of this year’s Miami Herald Silver Knight’s Honoree, Giaquinto II (Pj).

“We are over the moon that Pj would choose to honor Fara’s Place with this tremendous fundraising opportunity,†says Randie Hoffman, Fara’s mother and president of the nonprofit organization which bears her daughter’s name. “There are so many worthwhile programs in the area, and we feel blessed.â€

Seventeen-year-old Pj feels just as lucky to be involved with Fara’s Place. “As long as I can remember, I have seen Fara getting pushed around the neighborhood in a stroller. Very early on I recognized that Fara was a special gift from God and I realized then that I wanted to do anything I could to make Fara's and all special needs children’s lives better, so when I was selected by my school, Cardinal Gibbons High School and the Miami Herald Silver Knights Awards to put on a charity golf tournament there was no question as to which charity would be the beneficiary.â€

Pj’s mother, Donna Giaquinto is very proud of her son, and hopes that people will sign up and support Pj’s choice of charities. “Pj (and many in our family) has worked with Randy and these kids for five years, and when he won the Silver Knight’s award and chance to choose any charity to work with and raise funds for, he chose Fara’s Place.†Mrs. Giaquinto pointed out that many of Pj’s acquaintances told him to choose popular charities such as breast cancer – that he would be successful in his efforts because charities such as those are more well-known, but Pj wanted to follow his heart.

Pj told me, mom, I’ve been working with Fara’s Place for years, so why would I choose any other charity?†Giaquinto adds, “He is using his own money to promote Fairways for Fara, and I truly hope word gets out and many golfers/people come out to support it or even make donations to Fara’s Place.â€

The Miami Herald Silver Knight Awards is one of the nation’s most highly regarded student awards programs. The purpose of this awards program is to recognize outstanding students who have not only maintained good grades but have also unselfishly applied their special knowledge and talents to contribute significant service to their schools and communities.

The Fairways for Fara tournament is open to the public and all proceeds will benefit Fara’s Place, which is sponsored by the JCC of the Greater Palm Beaches & Alpert Jewish Family & Children’s Services of Palm Beach. The program is scheduled to open its doors this coming fall and hopes to be able to enroll up to twenty young adults. Funds raised at the golf tournament will be allocated for all expenses associated with creating and maintaining the day program.

A single entry fee is $155.00. A foursome fee is $500.00. Register by September 3rd and take advantage of Early Bird prices, $125.00 and $450.00, respectively. Fairways for Fara kicks off at 12:00 noon with check-in, practice range time and mulligans purchase. The shotgun start is 1:15 p.m. and an awards ceremony and cookout style buffet will be held at 6:30 p.m. The entry deadline for the event is September 27th, 2012.
