Guest guest
Hi all, I'm recently new to this site and have a few questions that some of you may be able to answer. I was diagnosed with PSC on July 3, a month ago. However my doctors cannot fully confirm the diagnoses it seems now. I have a history of gallstones. First attack in 1987 , second in 2000. My doctor put me on Urso 300 2x a day with regular checkups and everything was fine except for a few smaller stones in my bile ducts. I came off Urso in 2002 when I fell pregnant and stopped taking it over the years as my gallbladder was always empty on checkups (still had smallish stones in my liver but nothing to worry about). In 2006 in my 2nd pregnancy I developed Obstetric Cholestasis and had 4 or 5 cholangitis attacks 3 months post partum. My ALT and ALPs were extremely high and I was put on Urso 450 2x a day. Since then I have had some chest pain (centre of rib cage) and my hep noticed that my gallbladder had filled with stones and so had my liver with an exceptional stone in my bile duct. I was put on Urso 450 3x a day and sent to do an ERCP within the month to take it out and also my gallbladder. When I did the ERCP (November 2007) my gallbladder was empty (they left it there) and the large stone was actually a calcium buildup in my bile duct (left it there also) they cleaned the bile ducts of slush and they noticed that my left biliary tree had some dilatation but nothing chronic and said may possibly be PSC but considering I had been closely monitored in the last 8 years they highly doubted it. Fast track to June '08, had some slight pain in centre of chest, go to hep for an ultrasound where he finds that my bile ducts are full of what seem stones again, he says that I may have a high chance of having PSC. I have an MRI done on the same day but they are not convinced with the results and they are sending me to have a CT scan in Siena on Tuesday and then on to Bologna for a liver biopsy, although my doc says my liver is very healthy but quite enlarged. Bloodwork is perfect!! Friday last week I had that dull pain in my chest again and on Monday they did a Gastroscopy...nada. I was actually hoping for an ulcer!! Call me crazy.... I am thankful that they are using every measure available to diagnose me indefinately but can PSC be this hard to find? I'm starting to think that maybe I should just remove my gall bladder and see what happens. My doctors are also treating me as a unique case which scares me a little. Any information or personal experiences would surely enlighten me as I am feeling a bit alien at the moment....and also blessed that I don't have any symptoms as yet. Thanking you all in anticipation, a Italy
