Cholangitis Recovery

Hi all,

About 4 weeks ago I was hospitalized with 'suspected' cholangitis,

but was told that the entire left side of my biliary tree was so

occluded they couldn't be sure if I did or did not have an infection

(there was no reason to suspect infection in the right side, I

guess). They removed a stent I had in at the time on the chance that

bacteria was collecting around the stent, did lots of abx, and I was

discharged a couple of days later and told it was likely just a bad

GI virus, because I had some awful diarrhea and a killer headache

along with my fever and rigors. I bounced back within a few days of

being home from the hospital.

Last Thursday I was admitted with a fever of 102 degrees, rigors,

general feeling of unwellness, foggy brain, and LFT's through the

roof: official dx of blockage with cholangitis. Got a new stent (in

the same stubborn spot), loads of abx, and was hospitalized for 4 1/2

days. I was released this past Sunday afternoon. This time I am not

bouncing back. I have zero energy, am very weak, and my brain is

still in a complete fog--I can't find words when I'm talking, I feel

like I'm floating, sometimes my mind just goes completely blank and I

can't get anything out until someone prompts me with a word. I am

not on any narcotics.

So what I want to know is.... How long does it generally take to

recover from an acute cholangitis attack? It's been a full week now

since my admission, and I was hoping to be much closer to my

regularly scheduled programming at this point. And this foggy brain

crap--what the heck causes that? I hope that's just part of the

sickies for now, and not something I will be dealing with from now on.

Thanks,

Genevieve
