Guest guest
Pearl just got approved for SSI (yay!). We were planning on using some of her back payment to catch up on bills, which we have been behind on mostly because of her care. But when we got the information on the back payment it says that you must save the receipts and only spend it on a few things, such as medical care or education. They even want receipts! Has anyone else seen this? Do they really ask for your receipts? I'm having a hard time believing that this is the case because I have seen several families who buy less than worthy things with their SSI. Hopefully some of you have experience with this because it is making me a nervous wreck right now! mom to Pearl, PSC/AIH and Crohn's

Guest guest
FYI, Tyler (10) was approved almost immediately, however, the SSI payments are soo very small $49 per month. Anyone else have luck with getting more. They say they use our gross income and do not take into account that my medical premiums are directly withheld from my paycheck at $274 every other week... Guest guest
That's surprising - they did take it into account for Pearl Ann. Do they require that you report how the money is spent? > > > FYI, Tyler (10) was approved almost immediately, however, the SSI payments > are soo very small $49 per month. Guest guest
Stevie, We have a lot taken out of our check pretax, including a medical savings account. We can also have things like life insurance and commuting costs taken out pretax. You should check and see if you are taking out as much as you can. > > > > > > > FYI, Tyler (10) was approved almost immediately, however, the SSI > payments > > are soo very small $49 per month. Guest guest
No, they jsut kept saying they go by Gross income and would not even consider that my take home pay was after medical premiums were deducted. I think I need to go back and meet with a Case worker Supervisor in the Social Security office but it can be such a hassle. Because the SSI we get is only about $49 per month. They say we make too much, but if you ask me, we are poverty level... Any suggestions?. Stevie Lynn Gedgaudas
