Guest guest
My husband’s new GI has said to “leave well enough alone”. My husband currently has no symptoms (Praise God!) The GI doesn’t think that it is necessary to go messing with something that seems to be working fine right now. The doctor that performs the ERCP’s in his practice doesn’t have a good track record, from what we heard. It seems someone is always in the hospital after a procedure with him. The doctor that did my husband’s first ERCP was amazing! He does over 300/year and claimed to have complications with only 1%. (I was inclined to believe him too.) Our only problem with him was he told us that with the condition of my husband’s liver, he would need a transplant in 2 years, max. We freaked out because we were getting married 8 weeks later and had been looking for a house. We got a second opinion and felt much better. My husband has been symptom free for nearly 3 years. (Did I mention, Praise God?) If you think you need another ERCP done, check around to find a doctor that does them frequently. Be blunt and ask what kind of history they have with complications. Don’t be afraid to grill your doctor and press them to prove they are competent in what they do. It is your body, it’s your liver, and it’s your life. Also, don’t be afraid to drive a bit to go to a good doctor. They are worth a long drive if they are the right fit. We currently drive more than an hour each way to go see our GI- he is amazing though! (Anyone in the Southwest Ohio area looking for a doctor? I have one I can recommend without hesitation!) If at any point my husband shows symptoms or his GI strongly suggests we have done, it will be with the same doctor that did his first one, we will just have the results sent to our beloved GI. The bottom line is you have to do what is best for you. Guest guest
I have had 4 ERCP'S beginning in July of 07. I have not had any problems with any of them. Sometimes I will have had anitbiotic on the last 2 about a week before the ERCP. The other 2 were without anything. I think that this has to do with GI's in some cases but it also has to do with the way the body handles it.The medication that I normally take is Augmentin or a sub for it. I hope all you people that have ERCP's can get through it ok. Will see you all at ville. Everyone PLEASE be careful on the roads getting. I am driving from Washington State.
