Very sad. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- Date: Thu, Mar 15, 2012 at 10:23 AMSubject: Michele Sheffield and her son, Harley in today's Times Union (link)To: Elisa , " janetmillermoore@... Mr. , please pass on my regards and thanks to your team there at Palm Ave. Elisa, please let me know if you have any suggestions as to whom I should contact now at APD. I appreciate that everyone—the state, the school—is doing all they can as fast as they can for Harley in a state that simply has not valued caring for the most vulnerable among us. In case you didn’t see the article in today’s paper, please see the link: http://jacksonville.com/news/health-and-fitness/2012-03-15/story/jacksonville-mother-feels-pain-caring-20-year-old-autistic I’d say that what Matt Soergel and Bob Self did in the Times Union was a high act of prayer. It is so important to share these stories. I would love if Bob and Matt would do a similar story on exactly what behaviorist intervention looks like: what the process is, how it’s done, how effective it is. I’ll leave it to you, Janet, Angelo and Mr. , to decide whether to suggest such a story to them, complete with pictures and video. Thank you Ven Sequenzia, President of ASA Florida Chapter, for being accessible for Matt. Your quote in this story is all too true. Harley’s is the most intractable case of autism I have ever seen. I wish we could have gotten him these types of interventions at age 3, but I know his quality of life is improving now, and if things go right, will improve more soon, thanks to all of us working together, his TEAM! Be well, and enjoy spring break! And please forward the above link to anyone and everyone you can. -- Regards,Ven Sequenzia, Jr. PresidentAutism Society of AmericaState of Florida Chapter
