All the oils, the B-vitamins, zinc, vitamin c etc > > So, 2 weeks ago I tried ALA again at 3.75mg and actually felt better on round (which was not the case last time - I felt shit all the time then). I don't have thyroid problems, and am assuming this >is all adrenals. But why? My theory is that if one atom of mercury collides with my adrenals at the end of a round - I'm a basket case. My adrenals are shot. I am on full replacement cortisol. Even with all that cortisol, when I first started chelation the end of round side effects were much like you described above with both DMSA and DMPS at 25 mg per dose. I was petrified to chelate after those first few rounds. I found I could chelate at 18 mg per dose, so did so with DMPS continuously for over a year now. Now I can tolerate 25 mg DMPS per dose and am chelating continuously (without breaks because stopping is too hard on me). When I did try a couple of rounds of ALA at 5 mg per dose I kept getting more and more and more tired and sleepy and exhausted, so haven't tryed it much. I should try it soon so that I can report to you if the year of continued chelation has helped to lower the side effects. I would think so. > I was feeling great and I still can't pick myself up, despite a round of DMSA in the last week to try. > I still feel terrible. > > I do very well on NAC and am going to increase it (was only taking 200mg /day), so I'm assuming that I'm low glutathione. > I'm thinking maybe I should start some stronger adrenal support? > Could the metal released with ALA poison my adrenals? > My adrenals were FAR out of range on hair test with a Na/Mg ratio of 17. > Can't afford a saliva test. > > I've also got no appetite.. > > Any suggestions please! > > My thinking: get my adrenals up (with cortisol, etc) and wait a LONG time before I try ALA at 1mg with more NAC and Molybdenum. > I agree. 1 or 2 mg might even be ok now. I went back and looked at your hair test. I wonder why the Na is so high!! Could it be that you are losing Na like mad? Do you crave salt? and do you give yourself extra? I have had to give myself loads of extra salt in the last year. I wish I had realized long ago because many of my symptoms were simply from low Na. Read pages 98-99 of " Amalgam Illness " about Mg and K. I don't understand exactly why but some adrenally deficient people lose Na and retain K and others seem to lose both. You can tell if you need them by tasting salt (NaCl) - if it tastes good you need more Na, and salt substitute (KCl) - if it tastes good you need more K. It is not good to go low or high in K (because the right balance is needed for proper heart rythyms) so it is something to be very careful about (ie supplement small quantities by taste). You may find that you need to increase amount and frequency of Mg supplementation and/or follow Andy's suggestion of using supplementary arginine, glutamine and taurine to heal the gut so that Mg absorption improves. This is what I found that I had to do. I don't know what quantities of supplements you are taking. Relatively large quantities of Vit C and B vitamins are supposed to help the adrenals. I have added extra B6, thiamine, B12 and folic acid (on top of the B complex). I'm sure that we will be able to tolerate more ALA with time! J > Thanks, > Kai > P.s.
