Guest guest
Woman makes ultimate sacrifice for dying friend Kerry McIntyre gave up more than half her liver this year to save the life of her friend, former Mosgiel woman Joanne Waghorn. Despite risks to herself, the 44-year-old Winton mother of two made the decision to donate 62.5% of her liver after watching Mrs Waghorn get sicker every day due to a blood disorder. " When your best friend is dying and you think you can help, then you just don't think about those things [the risks] to be honest, " Mrs McIntyre said. http://www.odt.co.nz/your-town/mosgiel/13653/woman-makes-ultimate- sacrifice-dying-friend
Guest guest
Hi Penny - good to hear from you. I didn't even know, and I live here!! Its interesting the facts of: 20 live donor liver transplants performed in NZ since 2002. Of those 13 have been adult-to-children, 7 adult-to-adult. 4 live donors were not related to the recipient. I thought Australia would be ahead of us in live liver transplants!!!! Best wishes from who is very warm for the middle of winter down the south of New Zealand - there is a high pressure zone over us with very warm air from Australia!! > > , > They wont even consider it here, which surprises me, as we share the cadaver > livers through the same transplant program. I didn't even realize they did > live donation in NZ. > Thanks for that, > > Penny T (in cold wintery Qld) >
