Guest guest
If your IEP is still current (not expired) apply for the private Mckay now !!! Whatever Matrix # he has now will stay the same if you use the Mckay for next school year. If you apply after the IEP expires, it will be denied!! Yes, you can reapply after the IEP has been updated but if things are not resolved in your favor, like you said, you will have a lower Matrix. > > >Go to due process. His placement will have to remain the same until the due process is complete. You need to get an attorney. There is an advocate who works for free who can help you with this. Her name is Montalbano (I think the spelling is correct). Someone on this list serve must have her email address. You either need to hire an attorney (which would be my first suggestion) or work with an experience advocate you can afford. Seeing how is both experienced and affordable (free) you may want to go that path. > > > >Why is a VE cluster not an option? Have you checked out South Florida Autism Charter School? He has severe behavior issues and mental health problems. He has an average IQ and is high functioning. We want him staffed to a center school next year, as mainstream middle has no cluster or services to accommodate his needs. VE cluster is not an option. He has never been mainstreamed and his most recent psycho/educational eval clearly states he needs to be in a highly structured environment with a behavior plan and the same support services he receives now. My son has been Baker Acted 3x and tried to kill himself over the holidays. He could never handle the rigors of mainstream middle classes, homework or social issues. PROBLEM: The brainiac program specialist will not sign off on the center school placement 'cause there is not enough data to support the staffing. She is insisting on mainstream middle. > > > >We will lose his high matrix number all of our McKay funding when they take away his services in middle, so private school will not be an option. The IEP meeting was supposed to be this week, but we canceled it until we can figure out what to do next. Anyone have any creative ideas? I really don't understand how the School Board of Broward County can be so cruel. Please, if you have any ideas, please let me know. Can't afford an attorney. > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Where do you want him to go? I visited "Sunset School" years ago and I was impressed. Can he go there? Where does his educators suggest he goes? Not many schools accept older students with severe behavior, and I doubt he is a candidate for the South Florida Autism Charter school. They are in Dade County (Hialeah) and you would have to transport him yourself. I do not think you need an attorney at this time, unless you throughout the years have had one. What do you want?
