Sandi,

I have had the same pain for quite some time now (over 2 years). I can

have it on both sides. It is becoming more bearable as time goes on.

Or I am just getting more used to it.

It can come and go with different levels of severity. I had #5 ERCP

Thurday (not my idea that's for sure) and felt terrible all weekend

fighting a fever the whole time. We called in because they said to do

so. Turns out the doctor on call was one of the transplant team and

said " come in right away " .

They had me on a saline IV pretty quickly. I found out that they were

planning on admitting me and doing another ERCP in the morning. They

had suspected an infection.

This had not been my first goat rope and I told them if my labs come

back whacked you can keep me. If they are within normal ranges " I go

home " . We were in the ER until after 12:30 AM.

A week later and my temp has returned to normal. I am starting to feel

better than before the ERCP (somewhat). They think the sludge and

stones as they pass through your ducts can be a cause of the pain or

some believe that as the liver swells the membrane stretches and

causes it.

They are always concerned about infections because the pain will

radiate around to the back too, just make sure you have your logistics

lined up (sitters, etc) before you make the call. Once the ball starts

rolling it' s hard to stop.

If I keep getting the constant, will not go away pains, I will call in

if it gets really bad.

They send you to the clinic and do bloodwork. Most times no problem.

Take a pill, get some rest. Relax.

Have a great day!

Oh, while they were getting ready to knock me out my wife asked why

does he get pain on the left side and everybody else is predominately

on the right and most of the liver is on the right? Well there is some

of the liver that is on the left side you have to remember it is a big

organ and the belly is a funny place that can do weird things. Someone

with an appendix can have pain that feels like it is from the opposite

side, but it is mostly just radiating over. The source of the pain is

right here where the appendix is. Probably not spelled correctly.
