Guest guest
- I graduated College in the 60's and I had a boy friend and he graduated too. I would have had a teaching credential here but would have loved to teach or anything! I almost had my boyfreind (husband) willing to go with me and I chickened out! I was too afraid that I wouldn't have been able to find work. And, as it is, my major isn't so hot for teaching. Fine art and a minor in Antropology. His was political science...I'm afraid we were unemployable! LOL I have a friend who has a Rosella and a Gahla. She has so many cockatoos that I can't remember them all. I love my cockatiels and think they are the greatest birds! My budgies are nice too but not as social with me as the cockatiels. They are sweethearts! Now I find out they may want me to get rid of them. How can you do such a thing? They are my friends! By Buddies! My true delights! Them and my 5 dogs are my family. I do agree that it would be a better life for them if they had been left in the wild but I have 3 birds to a cage so that they have friends. I don't keep a single cockatiel in a cage...that would be so hard on them! And, they get all sorts of goodies! They get fresh water and salad with lots of ground up squashes and cukes and radish, etc. And they get scrambled eggs and plenty of seed and some pellets but I heard that pellets were not good for the smaller birds. I haven't had a cockatiel like fruit but they do like a pecan each day. They have plenty of toys and I make them so when I am feeling well I make a bunch of new toys for them. I tried having a gold fish and a fighting fish but I killed them all and don't know why. My Betta crocked by the next day but how could I kill a feeder gold fish???? The more you tell me about the birds there the more I want to hop on a plane and go see them! Unfortuneately I have all my animals and not too much money. Perhaps if you take some pictures you will share them with me? Just send them to my email address:Greycharlie@... I am imposing on you. Sorry if I am. You are lucky you are in Australia! Blue Flyer AZ ipf !!-08 Re: Kanga's and peanut Butta Which years were you thinking of coming to Oz Blue Flyer????? Generally Oz is very easy on our 'other mother' country for work permits...what work would you have been looking for????? Aren't Cockatiels great to have as pets... such quirky little characters.....I've had quite a few in my time in a big aviary in my back yard (I don't have a 'garden.'. it's too wild, bushy & messy to be called that) Big flocks of Pink Cockatoos use Lismore as a Dinner Table in times of drought out in the Western Country.....GALAAHS we call them because of their racous calls! Not many people here have caged Cockatoos ....we like to see them free & wild. Budgies, Rosellas, Eastern Parrots, Cockateels & Finches are commonly breed especially for the pet market & a few lesser known Parrots like the Burke & Turquoisine! Years ago, on a drive down through the Western Plains road to Melbourne I saw great flocks of Budgies in the bush... wow, they were spectacular like that... it made me question the practice of keeping so few caged together... they really are flock animals & survive best in the Hundreds! I also keep Tropical Fish & love their antics too but I must admit I feel guilty at the same time.....African Cichlids in a tank in a sunroom in Oz....a few swimming up & down & around & around, when they should be with schools of their own kind! Ah, the dilemna of being part of the collecting breed of HUMANS! Watching "Finding Nemo" didn't help my guilts any! Complicated desires heh wot! I know about feeling strongly for other places ... I wish I'd discovered Tasmania yonks ago when I was still flexible enough to make the move.....but the reality is that I make do with visitng as oftern as I can. Harder is the fact that I won't get back to the UK anymore! I've been grieving that one this year, especially when Chrsitmas Cards arrive from my friends from the Isles of Scilly & Cornwall, Ireland & Scotland. Time to start letting go is the way I see it... little by little more will be added to that list! That's part of the 'Squaring up' process for me! Hugs, in Oz (GIO) IPF: Fibrotic NSIP/UIP???? Raynauds' May 2007 Ro52 May 2008 >> Ahahahahah ! I read in a book that Roo's love peanut butta and jelly. Guess not! Here in AZ we don't have fields or meadows. LOL We live in a desert like state though I live in the High desert with trees and such. Cattle feed on a field close to me though. I live a mile up. I would love to visit Kanga land with a bunch of greens from your garden! And, I would love to see the wild birds. Australia has some of the neates birds! I myself, have 5 cockatiels and 2 budgies (parakeets) and have so many friends who have cockatoo's. Would love to see your wild birds! Australia is just the neatest country. Wish I had taken a chance and immigrated there after I finishe college. I just was afraid I wouldn't have found work and end up on the streets saving my ticket to go home.
