Guest guest
Absolutely - BE PROACTIVE families. Way to go Cate. Robin Hi Everybody,This email is for anyone who has children at Sawgrass Elementary in the PreK, K or Cluster classrooms. The principal has decided to cancel Swim Central, a free program for all PreK, PLACE, K and cluster classes. It costs the parents nothing and the school nothing. It's an opportunity for our children to overcome their fear in the water and learn to swim. Now granted, it's only two weeks and they won't be pro swimmers when they're done. But it's an opportunity that shouldn't be passed up. The administration made this decision without contacting parents and asking for our feedback. The claim is that it was canceled because the teachers said the children were crying because the water was cold because it was March. They didn't go in March, they went in May and the pool was 86 degrees. Most likely she got an overwhelming amount of teacher complaints because it has to be a very difficult two weeks for them, with busing and changing all the kids. Although I feel for t hem, I still don't feel that's a good enough excuse. A 7-year-old boy drowned in his pool this weekend. I want Swim Central back. I'm writing an email to the principal and forwarding it to Grigull and Desmond Blackburn, 's in charge of Autism for the county and Dr. Blackburn is the Area Superintendent for our school. If you feel the same way, please send emails! I'm posting this because I know they're keeping it quiet, no parents know yet and hardly any teachers know yet! But I've been told that if she cancels for this year, it will be very difficult for her to get back on the schedule again, which could affect children for years to come.Thanks!gary.grigull@...desmond.blackburn@...sherry.rose@... Guest guest
I love swim central. Not only for the swimming lessons for our kids that don't yet know how to swim, but also for our sensory children. My son does extremely well in the water, and he is a very experienced swimmer. However the 2 weeks in swim central provides him with a fantastic opportunity for sensory input and an informal water therapy as well as an increase in his self confidence to show off his strong point of swimming. It is his time to shine every year! If the schools are considering canceling this great service bc it is too taxing on the teachers they should open an opportunity for parent volunteers to assist. I hope our school does not cancel swim central.Sent from my iPhone Hi Everybody, This email is for anyone who has children at Sawgrass Elementary in the PreK, K or Cluster classrooms.
