Guest guest
Hi Peggy,I've been away from the list for a while so I don't know your history but a couple of things that jump out at me are the Welch's grape juice and the pineapple juice. Are you diluting them? (hubby - CD) still can't eat pineapple or drink pineapple juice. Of course everyone is different. I would suggest diluting the juice, if you aren't already, and if you are, you could leave it out for a few days and see if that helps. Bananas are difficult for some people. Have you tried cutting them out for a few days to see if that helped?Things I would suggest you try are, zucchini (peeled, de-seeded and well cooked), green beans (french cut, if you can) and apple sauce (homemade, of course). Introduce them one at a time and wait a couple of days between each addition to see if you have a reaction.Fat will help you feel full so if you tolerate butter, you could add it to your chicken, veggies, apple sauce, etc. And eating several small meals a day would help you to not feel like you're starving. It just takes a while to figure out what you can and can't tolerate and as you heal, you'll tolerate more and more. It's tough in the beginning but hang in there and it's a really good sign that you're showing improvement in many other areas.Take care,Kim H.husband, , CD 1999, SCD 2002To: BTVC-SCD Sent: Saturday, July 18, 2009 1:23:59 PMSubject: Foods that soothed for newbies I have been on the SCDiet for almost 3 weeks now & I just feel like I'm doing something wrong or I'm missing something. I am commite4d to this diet as it is truely my only option and it is so depressing to feel worse on it than I did off of it, despite all of my energy being put into it. I know this is nothing new here, I just need to vent a bit! I am soooo hungry all of the time & my bm's are softer/loser now than they were when I followed SAD. I worry about urgeny & not being able to make it to the bathroom in time. The good news is: I posted last week about gas pains (Asacol vs Lialda) & fortunately that issue has improved, may be because I did switch meds.More good news is I do feel better despite starving and loser bm's. I have been able to turn onto my sides in bed at night something which I haven't been able to do it years because it always made me run to the bathroom. My mood has improved, I sleep better and I am having less bm's. IMO the diet is working but boy is it giving me a tough time at the start here. I am currently eating limited foods-chicken broth w/ boiled chicken, 1-2 small pieces of well-cooked carrots a day, Welch's 100% grape juice, 1-2 eggs every other day, about 1 oz of brick cheese (Colby or Jack), Dole 100% Pinapple juice made into pops-may be I'll have 1 a day and bananas. I already cut out most dairy (yougurt, DCC) & beef patties so I am so scared that I have to cut more things out but I have a feeling the bananas are an issue. What do you think? Also, is there a food that I am NOT eatting that might help fill me up but is not aggrevating to most? Thanks, Peggy H. Guest guest
The only fruit I tolerate is the avocado. And cooked carrots don't work for me. Zucchini seems to be better in my case. It took me months to find the food that I tolerate... and even today I am very confused and not 100% sure about anything. But I feel I am following the right direction :-) Chronic D since 2005 SCD April 29 Intro May 29 Low-carb Jun 11 > > I have been on the SCDiet for almost 3 weeks now & I just feel like I'm doing something wrong or I'm missing something. Guest guest
Peggy, Hang in there, things will get better! If you are not familiar with the Pecan Bread website, it is geared towards children on the SCD, and outlines the foods you can eat on the intro diet and then foods for the next stages of food introduction. Check it out here: http://www.pecanbread.com/p/recipes1.html Healing can be a slow process so you’ll need some patience to go along with your fierce determination. Guest guest
Hi Peggy- I am three months into this diet. I have noticed improvements such as feeling better and sleeping better, and also GI improvements. However, it is somewhat trial and error with some foods. Carrots do not work, but acorn squash and zucchini do. Are you keeping a food journal? I find it helpful to identify what works and what doesn't work for me. The stages on pecanbread.com are also helpful. Hang in there! PJ > > Peggy, Hang in there, things will get better!
