Guest guest
Hi Genevieve I've not had acupuncture for my liver but did for acute lower back pain. If you've never done it, only the first treatment will seem a little odd--you end up looking a little porcupine-ish. .... After that, the freedom from pain is wonderful. While the lower back pain took multiple sessions of acupuncture to make it go away, the thing I liked about it was that it was a non-drug pain reliever. And since our livers are the site affected, ya gotta like that. As for the cholesterol question, mine was elevated about 20 years ago when I was almost finished university. My doctor chalked it up to diet and stress (and changes to both reduced it) but I'm now wondering along with all the other mystery things that have transpired along the way whether this hasn't been part of the big slow progression of PSC all along. Guest guest
Hi Genevieve, I've been seeing an acupuncturist for years and I have found it to be helpful for various things. I go to someone who is also an MD, though he only practices Chinese medicine now. I like that he has medical knowledge so I didn't have to explain the difference between IBD and IBS (which I had to do with a previous person I tried going to) and he knew what PSC was right away. He not only does acupunture, but also gives me dietary guidelines (which have been amazingly helpful) and also gives me herbs (pills). I initially saw him for getting pregnant the second time (which I did right away after seeing him) and for my UC symptoms, which almost completely went away while I was following his diet, despite the fact that my colon was still quite inflamed. It was amazing (though a hard diet to maintain, very restrictive). Lately I went after getting diagnosed with PSC and my number one problem has been sleeping - I can't fall asleep, and every time one of the kids wakes me up, I have trouble falling asleep again. Since seeing him (he did acupuncture and gave me some herbs to take before bed), I've been sleeping like a log. So I'm a great believer! But make sure you see someone who knows what they're doing, there is great variance in quality out there, since it's not regulated. Good luck! Ruth UC-2000, Colectomy-2007, PSC-2008 > > Hey folks!
