Hi,

I've known that I've had this all my life... I thought everyone had that

little bump. My dad felt the back of my head and he asked if I had banged my

head on something because of the bump and I told him that I had always had

that. We asked the neurosurgeon I was seeing at the time for consults about

it. He said that it was a protrudent of the occipital ridge and that not

everyone who had it has chiari and not all persons with chiari will have the

bump, but that a surprising number of his chiari patients had the

protrudence. It might make for an interesting poll.

Take care,

Joanna/Atlanta (16 years)

Well, now this really cracks me up, because this bump... which feels like a

boney bump.... is on the back of my head at the base of the skull... and has

become more pronounced in the past year. Funnily enough, so have my chiari

symptoms! My fiance (now husband) used to tell me when he was rubbing my

head that the shape of the back of my head was changing!
