Guest guest
I had my surgery on November 6 2006, and I only lost 16 pounds. I didn't lose any weight from last week. I thought that after surgery that losing a pound a day is normal. Is the honeymoon over already. I weigh and measure my food just as the dietian suggest I do. What could I possibly be doing wrong. Am I rushing this. I do some walking 30 minutes at a time.
Guest guest
Audrey, I was told ½ pound to 1 pound a day. If you didn't lose any weight for a week that probably means you've " plateaud " which means you're body is adjusting the freak out of surgery and quick weight loss. It's very confused. Also, you probably were losing or might have stopped losing water weight from the hospital IV. There may be averages and normal as far as weight loss but just because you MIGHT not be " normal " or average doesn't mean this won't be a success and certainly doesn't mean something has to be wrong to explain things. The honeymoon period is supposed to approximately 18 months. Again that's one of those average/normal/approximate things. The idea that it could only be three weeks is really something I hope you're sort of joking about. I didn't weigh or measure food but that's not a bad idea. I did keep a diary (which I've uploaded). It was haphazard but did have information my dietician seemed to appreciate. I think others might have often done less or just not bothered with a diary. You're making an effort to work at this. That's a positive any way you slice it. Why do you feel that you have to be doing something wrong? Stop beating yourself up. I might suggest some counseling to deal with your guilt especially considering you are making efforts, following dietician and doctor's orders and still consider yourself responsible for being an assumed three week failure. You are indeed rushing this. Good call. You have a great deal of insight into yourself and your take on this and yet you still feel guilty/failure. Get rid of that second part. 30 minutes of walking at three weeks is fantastic. How many days a week do you do that? I think that might be a good 30 minutes more than I was doing regularly at three weeks post-op. I do regret not exercising sooner and more intently. You're doing fantastic in that department comparatively. How do you feel? How's your energy level? How's your bathroom situation? Are you getting in all/most your water/food? Concentrate on using your wls tool to develop lots of little habits now. You sound like you've started well, keep up your hard work!
