Guest guest
Just wanted to let yu know i am out here and appreciate this site. I am feeling very sick today- wearing dark sunglasses in the house. I tried to figure out when it all started. This week I feel like i did during the months after i had mumps and meningitis at age 12. Last week I had dark circles under my eyes just like in my school photo when I was 9 and in some of my baby pictures (allergies?) I have allways had a hard time falling asleep and a hard time waking up (even if I sleep 10 hours)- I remember my parents saying I must be the only child on earth who had to be dragged out of bed on christmas morning whining " just 10 more minutes, please.' -it was a running gag and became a favorite family story. Before that I had early childhood malnutrition and rickets. Very small and not much hair, one photo shows me eating snow (Iwas hungry). My parents dissagree about my age. Dad says Iwas born a year earlier than mom says and it's hard to give either one of them the benefit of the doubt. As soon as I could speak I complained of head aches At age two I had a severe strain of influenza. At age 8 I had peculair illness the lasted (acute portion) 24hrs, included hallucinations, seizures high bodytemp - fascinated the med school as a handfull of oter kids had the same thing. So they studied us all for a few months In my mid twentys I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's (auto immune) thyroid disorder. Made me verry ill at the time but now i just take a thyroid pill every day. at diagnosis the dr said my bloodwork was the most extreme he'd ever seen and that I must have been on low thyroid function for years- amazd I was able to walk into the office. A few years ago i was on a psych med called seroquel (a 'cousin drug' to zyprexa) and developed somethng called metabolic syndrome. most of the symptoms of that are gone now but i still have high cholesterol. And a lot of belly fat; dr blamed it on the 'stress hormone' cortisol and said that was part of the metobolic syndrome. I am not yet diagnosed with Fibromyalgia - allthough my dr and everyone else I meet say my current condition meets all requirments for diagnossis. We ust wait for the right specialist to put a name to my sufferring. My illness and inability to do basic household tasks puts a load on my partner, and she already has her own load to carry and does worry about me so. Today the only painmeds I can take are tylenol and aspirin. I take lithium and mostly a lot of drugs could kill me if they are combined with lithium so i have to be very carefull. I tried tramadol/ultram and it gave me bad head ache and severe nausea. All the drs I see are reluctant to prescribemea narcotic. i have no substance abuse history, but I live in a town with a thriving street market for narcotics. hmm, i could use some extra cash! just kidding. Oh bless me I have been typing for ever. I hope this is an okay Hello.Wenzdai
Guest guest
What a horrible experience you have had with life. It is truly heartbreaking. Why were you starved as a child? Were you adopted by your parents after being taken away from the natural parents? How horrible to have started life with that kind of problem. And the host of other health issues beside the possibility of fibro. Hugs to you. Write all you want here. This is a very understanding group. Guest guest
wenzdai, I also had been a sickly sort of child. I spent my entire childhood sleeping. I can seriously relate to what you are saying about your thyroid. I just had the usual childhood illnesses, but as an adult was in a serious auto accident which has left me with a closed head injury, herniated disk in my spine & neck, neuralgia, lower, upper and middle back problems as well as partial paralysis in the left side of my body. It was quite by accident they FINALLY discovered my thyroid was full of nodules.....hundreds of x-rays, MRI's and CT scans of my back, neck & brain. The first endocrinologist just blew all this off and gave me levoxyl for the low thyroid problem. I spent the next four years feeling like $h!t. Having been diagnosed with FM everything was passed off as just that...a bad flare up. I now have a new endocrinologist who took the time to do a full make up of blood test, ultrasound of the thyroid and another biopsy. So far I have the blood test results back. I am seriously low on Vitamin-D, B12, Iron as well as my thyroid meds had to be tripled and he discovered my adrenal gland is barely producing cortisol which may be related to my pituitary gland not functioning. Now that I am on 125mcg of levoxyl I actually feel some what human again....my body still hurts and I am on 8 other Rx's for the FM and accident damage, but I actually haven't fallen asleep 10 minuets after I get out of bed, that is when I can get out of bed. I have learned you cannot just take one doctors word anymore. I begged the other doctor to look at my case more seriously and he would do only the minimal. They keep telling us there is no absolute medical condition that sets this off it just happens, but as I read all of your post I see there are so many common factors between all of us. I so know from what the new Doc told me is it is serious when your adrenal glands are not working properly and these hormones are vital to life it's self. I hope there is light at the end of this tunnel for me.....I am so tired of being sick. I thank god every day that I have an excellent pain management doctor! Guest guest
Teri- Such a Trauma- the accident- to discover you are hypothroid. I think thyroid testing should be routine for all physical exams, just like a complete blood count or something. We go all out on vaccinations but don't take the time to look at the bloodchemistry which can help so much with identifying medicalconditions. At least now if one checks into a psych hospital suicidaly deprssed the first ting they do is check for low thyroid. Do be agressive about your thyroid monitoring. Most docs think once a year is okay, but with complicating factors- biological or multi-med- more ofen is necessary. I get mine done 2 or3 times a year; more if I can'tkeep a steady thyroid level or am having med adjustments. Peace, Wendai > > Just wanted to let yu know i am out here and appreciate > this site.
