Guest guest
Loretta, It's so overwhelming how many things we have that compound eachother. I'm sorry you have your plate so full. I thought people with bipolar couldn't take anti-d's? Can you take meds to lower your blood pressure so you could stay on Cymbalta? How is Cymbalta helping you? I was on it for a few years......gained weight.......did not help my pain at all. What about Straterra for your ADHD? It's a anti-d not a stimulant. I don't know if you could take it while on Cymbalta though. Have you ever thought about EEG training for ADHD? It's supposed to be really effective. It's not highly promoted because there is no big money to be made from it. I'm going to try it with my son. I really don't want him on stimulants..... it's basically meth. Have you ever tried the diet for it? I haven't had the energy to try it yet, but I'm thinking about it over summer vacation. I was going to have his twin sister and me all do it since it might help fibro, asthma, and allergies. It's so much work and so restrictive! Jill Cymbalta, high blood pressure, chest pains hello all! I have been on Cymbalta for about 2 years primarily for my fibro pain. It was a godsend most days, except for the fact that it made me gain 20 lbs. I have started seeing a new psych doc for my med management and she checked my blood pressure in her office. It was like 145 over 95, so she told me to monitor my blood pressure three times a day for two weeks; she also said to call her sooner than my next appt. if my blood pressure was always high. Well the lowest it has been is 134 over 103. I am getting upset about this, because I don't feel comfortable stopping the only thing that has kept me from hurting so bad. My psych doc also wants to treat me for my adhd, but I cant take the meds with a high blood pressure. i desperately wanted to get out of this extreme fog I've been living in. oh poop. i guess i will call my pcp and my psych doc on Monday, and get an appt with my pcp to check if I have hypertension. my psych doc wants to do a sleep study ASAP to see if i have sleep apnea too. i want to get better, but its depressing to have so much going on at the same time-- the fibro, MPS, IBS, diverticulitis, bladder problems, bowel problems, heart area pains, gerd, arthritis, bipolar, adhd, the list goes on and on and Im only 33... Anyway has anyone else had the high blood pressure from taking cymbalta, along with severe weight gain? Loretta
Guest guest
Hi Loretta, I was on Cymbalta for a time and did not have high bp. Yeah, you need to see your pcp, it may not have anything to do with the Cymbalta. Take care... /Mi Cymbalta, high blood pressure, chest pains hello all! Guest guest
Loretta, I also have hypertension. I have been on the same line of drugs you are on for years. (Not Cymbalta though)... but SSRI antidepressants. I now take Zoloft. I am not sure but it could be part of the culprit for the high b/p. I still take it, but I also take Lisinopril w/ hctz for blood pressure. It seems to work pretty well... luckily. Now, the part about the ADHD meds.... I have wanted to try them myself but have not said anything to the doc because I know it will jack my b/p up. Most of those type drugs are amphetamines or something close to that class of drug. I would love to be able to take something like that for the horrible exhaustion that is never ending. (I might be a little ADHD also because my thoughts race sometimes and they seem to trip over each other). And weight gain? Yes, I believe my antidepressants have had a role in my weight gain. I unfortunately have to live with that because I cannot stop the antidepressants. (it is a no no for me and I know from experience).... I hope you find something to help you. Maybe they can put you on a b/p med that will help and MAYBE also one of the ADHD drugs. I don't know if they would do that or not. hugs, Debra V. punkrockmom74 lgrijalva1@...> wrote: hello all! Guest guest
Jill, The cymbalta took my fibro pain down from a 8 to a 3 or 4, much more reasonable. I still felt some pain though, which turned out to be osteoarthritis in my hips. Last night I had extreme pain in my chest so my doc asked me to go the ER. THe ER doc had an ekg and chest x-ray done, along with blood tests. Well basically I cannot be on the amphetamine type drugs anymore, my heart is too sensitive to it. He mentioned that I can try Straterra, and we also discussed the fact that my ADHD could be stemming from sleep apnea. So I stopped taking the drug, and I will be calling my pdoc to see about getting a sleep study referral. It would be great to get my energy and mind back by treating my sleep problems!!! Anyway I meet my new therapist in two weeks. I don't know what kind of therapy she specializes in. What is EEG training? I haven't tried the diet yet. My son was put on adderall a few years ago for ADD, but i took him off of it because he stopped gaining weight or growing. I've had to learn that he can't have any red food coloring like in red punch or kool-aid. Also not that much sugar in general. Are there any good books on the diet? Guest guest
Hi , I went to the ER last night because I began to have severe chest pain. Anyway they did the million dollar work up and decided that though my heart is in good shape, that it is too sensitive to the amphetamines in my new ADHD med. So I cannot take it. As for the blood pressure, it was still elevated, so they told me to get a sleep study to check for sleep apnea and other sleep disorders. I will be calling my doc on Monday to get referrals to my rheummy, a gastroenterologist and a sleep study center. the gastroenterologist is essential according to the doc at the ER because acid reflux can cause sleep apnea in some cases. So I have my work cut out for me. Thanks for writing! Loretta > > Hi Loretta, > I was on Cymbalta for a time and did not have high bp.
