I would call your Dr. and ask about the meds.. while it could be anything, if any of these meds are new to you.. they could be causing the problems.

Hope you start feeling better soon.

So glad your daughter is back safe and sound. Now it will be just a matter

of you being able to keep your cool as she begins to push those buttons.

OK If we are requesting where Perkins can move, what about New York.?????????

It would save me a lot of trouble and headaches as well. I have never lost

so much sleep over school issues as i have this last year. Today was last

day THANK GOD! September hopes to be a bright begining!

Well, if we're gonna move Perkins, the most logical choice would be smack

dab in the middle of the country for easier access for all - which would

mean right near me in St Louis!

Hey Cathie,

I am glad 's last day has arrived!!! I know how much you have struggled

with it all this year.

And you have done a lot of work...and you do " have us " now (having us see and

fall in love with your child could be a big motivator for moving) teehee.

Again, I say, this is a hard decision to know where to move (as if this was

within my power!) because when we have the opportunity to fall in love with the

kids, well, we want to be where they are, too. And who would not want to be in

the middle of the country where the original Tinkerbell lives????

I would be more than thrilled to have a satelite school here in New

Jersey!!! RYan would be first in line waiting to start in

September...especially since he is a child-without-a-school right

now! His current school, Lake Drive, officially kicked him out!! On

a positive note, he had his first day at camp and it was amazing.

He is happy, celebrated and pretty much the love of the camp...what

a nice change to these past few months.

Pam,

It is so true... has all the problems in the world and at the

same time, he has none...they do. His issues at school clearly had

something to do with school!

Barbara-

I have been reading your posts with interest. It must be a bit of a comfort

to know that he can have a great time and be a great kid given the right

environment. At least you know that you are right about this because you've

seen the evidence. For me, that would make it easier to stand strong in

arguing with the school to get what needs. Doesn't ease the

frustration of wondering why the educators can't get it, but at least it

gives more strength to your backbone as you advocate on 's behalf.

I really hope you can get something good sorted out before the start of the

next school year. How frustrating for to know he can do well and not

be given the tools to do it.

having that they couldn't handle? who was his teacher? this just leaves a bad

taste in my mouth !!! I hope you find the answers you need---guess tim better

Hi Michele/,

I am making light of it all, but it has been a very trying time for

all of us these past months. has been having " aggression " in

the form of hitting, pinching basically as a form of refusal,non-

compliance and lack of interest in following someone else's ageda.

Between delayed expressive language skills, poor frustration

tolerance, OCD and having no consequences to his negative behaviors

for over a year, RYan learned to practice negative behaviors. In

any event, we complied with everything the school asked and then

some. We sought out 2 psychiatrists, a neurologist and started

medication when we understood the chemical side of his issues. I

spent a month shadowing him at school only to find out that he was

completely unchallenged academically...literaly bored to tears.

Since February, we started medication for OCD, and he began working

with a 1:1 teacher since April. We were assured that if we made

these changes (meds and teacher and made changes, he'd be able

to continue his placement). He attended a school for the deaf and

is a deaf child who communicates through sign language. made

such significant gains academically...it was really impressive, even

to me and I always think he can do anything. Behaviorally, there

was not enough of a change so they literally said they couldn't

spend that much time on him next year. It is very difficult because

there really isn't a good school for a child like him as I am sure

we all encounter in different ways every day. Sending to camp

just refreshes me. This is the second year has attended this camp.

just gets to be a kid, have fun and be enjoyed. I really think

it refreshes him as well.

There really was nothing to do to convince/argue the school...I've

been doing it all along. I had great plans arranged with Pam and

the team at Perkins...they are just wonderful. But for any plan to

work, part of the change has to come from the school. It is

impossible for that to happen when everyone involved thinks they

know better than anyone else. It is a shame. We have found a few

other schools that seem to like , be intersted and open to a

wonderful and challenging and loving little boy. I think in the

end, having a team willing to work with a family and child and be

supportive and nurturing (while trying to " fix " things) is an

important balance. Michele- Thanks for any kind thoughts. By the

way, I love Aubrie's picture...she looked FANCY!

-just watch Tim's behavior issues. Just try to be on top of

it. If the school is telling you they are concerned, don't delay.

I was on top of things 110% and for us it didn't help. I hope you

have better luck. Different kids...likely differnet outcomes. His

teacher was and she was FABULOUS. She is actually

going to be private tutoring after camp this summer just to

keep up on his skills (despite everything, she sees great potential

in him). It isn't really a teacher/therapist decision (although I

question the skill level) but an administrative one...

Take Care,

Barbara-

Oh, I hear you. As in any relationship, there are 2 sides. You can only do

your part and then the other side must do theirs as well. It's more than

just a shame-I can't think of words strong enough to describe it. I hope

you are able to find a quality team. In our experience, it isn't always the

ones with the most expertise or experience - attitude is truly everything.

Someone with the right attitude can find out what they need to know.

Someone who knows " everything " but has a bad attitude can do loads of damage

without even realizing it.
