Guest guest
Hi Jill. I've never worked and it only took me one try when i was 21 years old to get approved for SSI benefits. But I was also a newly divorced mom of 2. Now I'm a newly single mom of 3. Funny how things change. Anyhoo. The big key to getting on SSI quick is a good dr. You have to have a dr who supports your decision to get on disability first (Phylis definately needs a more compasionate dr.). The dr should also know your financial status. I mean tell the man/woman if you have to choose between drugs and food or gas. That was my saving grace getting approved. I had a great dr who truley cared. She wrote numerous letters to the board that decides the disability cases and I think that is what really helped. I also went to vocational therapy. That is where they give you a bunch of tests and write down every time you twitch, move or fart (I'm mostly serious). Then the tech inputs all the data into a really nifty program that spits out the jobs that you are " qualified " for. My search came back with 0. I do know I was lucky and I've never met anyone not in a wheelchair who got on SSI so quick. Then I fell into a loophole and got into the Adult Children With Disabilities about 2 months before i would have become inelegebile. I don't know it's kinda a been there. done that. know some tricks kinda thing. With nay type of social sec. you have to know how to manipulate the system, or they will walk on you. Unfortunately that wonderful dr dosen't accepte Medicare or Medicaid. So now I have a medioceore dr whom I'll probally be firing soon. I've learned that too. If your dr won't listen. fire him there are plenty more. Sorry for the ramble. Hope to help. Sharon. new member Hi everyone, I am new to this group and was diagnosed with FMS 4 years ago. However, the past 6 months have been the worst ever. My hips and legs are in severe pain and anytime I hold my 11 month old nephew (who is very tiny) my right arm ends up hurting severely for weeks. I have also recently started having severe migraines that last up to a week. It has not been fun. I also have 2 autistic boys and a husband that is very unsupportive and not only unhelpful, but he pretty much makes everything worse. My stress level is through the roof. I went to see a new rheumatologist this week and he started asking me about my childhood and my marriage and said I was depressed and prescribed Trazidone. I asked about Lyrica and he pretty much shook his head and said that only helps with the pain and wouldnt prescrib it. He pretty much gave me nothing for the pain, just said that if I get some sleep with the trazadone the pain will get better. His resident suggested possibly water therapy but he shot that down too saying try the trazadone first. I was able to get a handicapp parking sticker, but can not apply for disability. For the past 13 years I have been a stay at home mom, doing odd jobs from home (in home daycare for most of the time and selling avon). None of it comes close to helping with the bills (especially with two autistic kids) but working outside the home is impossible for me. The number one reason I am stuck in my marriage is I have no way to support myself and the kids (even with support from him). I am mostly just looking for a supportive group to discuss and vent with.
