Guest guest
Jesnne, I have also had Gastric Bypass Surgery. I take Calcium Citrate with Vitamin D and Magnessium. The Magnessium has been the key for good absorbtion. I did not absorb the Calcium Carbonate as well either. I am not sure which of the recommended vitamins you take, but I would be very interested in talking with you especially to have someone to talk about similar situations after the bypass. I was just diagnosed with Fibro and am having a very hard time balancing all my GBP meds along with the over abundance I now take for my Fibro. Hope to hear from you, Saundra > > Hi Diane - I had the same news last week. No trace of vitamin D in my blood at all. I am taking that same dose of 50,000 IU twice a week. My PCP said that same thing about vit. D helping greatly with pain. > > I have malabsorption issues because of gastric bypass surgery. I've been advised that the prescription D won't absorb well in my system. This advice is from a lady I respect very much who has done tons of research on how vitamins absorb and what works for those having had any weight loss surgery. So I will soon be purchasing a dry form of the vit. D and taking that daily. > > As my biggest complaint is fatigue, I'm not sure how it will affect that. But lowering pain would be nice, too. OKAY........... and.. well he told me that when a body becomes extemely vit D. defincent it can effect fibro even more. and he was really making since with all the musculoskeltal system and neuro pain. so now he is putting me on 50,000 units of Vit. D a day for the next 8 weeks, then we will retest and see how much relief i will get . he is in research so i am now one of his patients. > diane > >

Guest guest
I just heard from my new unpleasant doc today and he told me that I am extremely Vitamin D. deficient as well. He just told me to go to the store and pick up Vitamin D and take 1000 mg a day. Does this make sense? Phyllis Diane/vit. D Mine are a pretty blue gel, is that what your's are like? LOL! Guest guest
No it does not Phyllis. You can't get the boost from store bought vitamin D. a boost is a boost generally written on a scrip for 8 week regimen of 50,000units. I can tell a little has already begun to happen. my neck and upper shoulders feel a little better today and my feet are not hurting as much either. Guest guest
Ok Diane, tough question- I take 0.5mcg Rocaltrol (Vitamin D) once or twice a day per my doctor. How many units would that be then? Or should I ask my pharmacist? Debbie L > > No it does not Phyllis. Guest guest
Hi Debbie well , 1 mg = 1000 ug.IU = International Unit. An International Unit measures activity of vitamins and drugs. Vitamins A, D, and E are often measured in this way. Conversion from IU to mg is different for each vitamin. mcg = Microgram. A microgram is a metric unit of measure. Some vitamins and minerals are measured in micrograms. 1000 micrograms equal one milligram. mg = Milligram. A milligram is a metric unit of measure. Many vitamins and minerals are measured in milligrams. 1000 milligrams equal one gram you are doing 0.5 mcg's. an example of dose here would be a weekly dose of 700 mcg (28,000 units) hope this helps with understanding how much it takes when converting mcg to mg to units. diane Diane http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/tsmileys2/47.gif " > Re: Diane/vit. Guest guest
Diane - Are you experiencing any side effects from the vitamin D? I had a sudden bout of " D " last night and had taken my prescription D that morning. Also have a terrible headache. So tough to know for sure what is causing the symptoms.
