Guest guest
I quit drinking diet coke 9 days ago. I have no cravings for sweets or carbs. I have had some pretty strong cravings, though, for raw cabbage, radishes, oranges and water!! I have never liked to drink water, but now actually enjoy it! I have lost 7 lbs in these past 9 days. Best part is....I DON " T HURT NOW!!!! I have thought that I must have a milder case of fibro than those on the list. Now I'm wondering if it isn't aspartme poisoning causing my problem. Guest guest
Cassandra, I know, I should be drinking a lot of water. But I'm gonna have to wean myself off the evil aspartame!!!!!! /Mi What the heck to drink instead of diet soda/ aspartame concern Try Water. Rubbermaid makes 1/2 liter and 1 liter drinking bottles with a flip top lid. Look on the bottom of any plastic container for a triangle with a number in it. If the # is 1, 3 or 7 don 't buy it (same goes for baby bottles and sippi cups) Plastic products with these #s leach poison into the liquid especialy when heated or used repeatedly. There has been alot on the news about this recently. The new Rubbermaid bottles (you can get them at Rite Aid) have a 5 in the triangle- this is safe. Water can be flavored with a small amout of juice if you want something sweet- apple or fruit punch work good. We all need to be drinking A LOT of water. Especialy if we get muscle spasms or are on meds. Live long and prosper, Cassandra.
Guest guest
Wow, Sue, that's awesome. I know my mother in law has been after me to stop drinking the diet coke. I guess I'll have to stop now!!!! Good for you, I'm glad it helped the pain....if it helps, it sure will be worth it. /Mi Re: What the heck to drink instead of diet soda/ aspartame concern I quit drinking diet coke 9 days ago. Guest guest
You can buy a lot of the propel, and other powders in little packets now. Just a little bit can give the water a bit of flavor. I can get 4-6 bottles of flavor out of one packet. But alot of them have aspartame so you'd have to shop them. Guest guest
Today found out the store brand diet drinks I buy have aspartame in them. But have only been drink one can every few days. Otherwise drink Lipton Diet Berry tea in the day time and Lipton brewed tea in the evening. Since I was drinking my brewed tea too fast I added bottled lemon drops to it which helped. On weekends we do split a diet coke each day we go to the movies. Also drink plenty of water since I am always thirsty from my diuretic. Guest guest
Fortunately (or unfortunately) I've always thought that the aspartame/fake sugar thing was bad for you. I figured that we're all going to die eventually and it seems like everyday they come up with something ELSE that you eat that is going to kill you so I've never been a big diet soda fan (although for awhile I got hooked on diet cherry 7up but the after taste to me was gross). I always drank the real thing with ALL the sugar. I used to get one fountain pop from 7- 11 every work day but it gets expensive. I started weening (sp) myself off of that and then found Mcs sweet tea about 6 months ago. They don't have this in Michigan (I moved to Florida 2 years ago. Sweet tea is a big thing down in the south). Anyways, I am addicted. I try to not get one but always break down and buy one (Mcs is right across the street from my work). I've tried to make it myself but the sugar doesn't desolve very well so I drive across the street (the road is super busy and you can never get across if you walk). It's pretty sad. When I ask for a sweet tea with no ice (it costs $1.07 buy the way ;-) ) they know it's me. What's even worse is that usually at lunch I park somewhere in my car and read. One of the managers saw that I'm always reading while waiting in line with the other cars and she's a big reader so we are now swapping books - LOL!! By the way, if anyone is looking for HOT vampire stories, I found this author - J.R. Ward - that has a series. SMOKING!!! The manager at Mcs loved them. Ok, back to the point. I try to drink water but always give in to the sweet tea. Those vitamin waters, etc have a ton of sugar in them too so you all might want to check the labels before buying. Guest guest
Just FYI, Mc's now has sweet tea in Michigan. To make it at home, make REALLY strong tea and put the sugar into the tea while the tea is hot and make a tea " syrup " . Then dilute the tea to taste and cool. I make it all of the time. Some people make a " batch " of the syrup and keep it to use as needed. > >
Guest guest
Sometimes when my sinuses are acting up, things don't taste right. Now for what to drink instead of artificial sweetners? I drink water with fresh lime/lemon orange slices, green tea sweetened with raw sugar or honey, juices and flavored waters in the bottle. Made a difference in how I feel as far as fatigue goes. Hope you feel better. Hugs, [image: ndaAppleBlossomsbyNoelleLeanne-vi.jpg picture by herbalady] > on that topic; anyone ever have things like soda not taste right? Guest guest
Yep, thanks Angie, I'm going to have to do some brainstorming. I talked to my sister in law who has MS and the doctor told her NO artificial sweetners of any kind. He said even Splenda, while made with sugar, still has some bad things in it. Soooo....I'll be weaning myself off I guess!! /Mi Re: What the heck to drink instead of diet soda/ aspartame concern Gosh, I need to try this too!!! I drink about 5 or 6 diet drinks a day. What a simple way to help our pain. Annie karriemom (AT) charter (DOT) net wrote: I quit drinking diet coke 9 days ago. I have no cravings for sweets or carbs. Guest guest
Krista, I LOVE sweet tea. When hubby and I were on vacation last year in South Carolina...I became addicted!! And, I just saw an ad on tv about a week ago that Mc's has sweet tea here....Must try it!!! /Mi Re: What the heck to drink instead of diet soda/ aspartame concern Fortunately (or unfortunately) I've always thought that the aspartame/fake sugar thing was bad for you. Guest guest
Hi , Being that I am from the Southeast, I'm use to having a pitcher of iced tea around all the time. It's a habit that never went away in all the years I've lived in Connecticut. My friends are all very glad now because after they had a nice, tall, glass of tea filled with ice cubes tinkling in the glass a few times, they fell in love with it. They all say that mine is better than what I've told them they can make (my recipe so to speak), but then I think most things are better when you don't have to make them. Although I love my iced tea too. I was always assigned to bring big containers of it to all of our church functions. Sometimes in the summer I put a little blade of mint in it. I heat enough water for 8 tea bags, about a 1/2 gallon and bring it to a boil and let it steep for about 30 minutes and then (like you said) put the sugar in while it is still piping hot and after I take the tea bags out. Then I add water and put it in large glass jars to store in the refrigerator. It lasts about 3 days that way. I don't really have a syrup but have a little more water than that. Sometimes I use three ginseng tea bags from Japan in addition, when I am brewing it. It really tastes good that way too. It's in demand now both summer and winter by my friends and family. They got used to the southern way of drinking it with dinner, that or water, and having it around all the time. It is very refreshing and really quenches thirst. The Mcs here has just started having ice tea too, but I haven't tried it. Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts have it now too. Guest guest
Don't know when it happened but after growing up in southern Illinois where most of my ancestors had moved from Virginia to Tennessee to Kentucky and then to Illinois, everyone drank sweet tea, but I seldom ever drink sweetened tea. Once in awhile, I might have one glass at a Cracker Barrel where I also go to get my fix of country fried steak, fried okra and a few other things! But I have been drinking unsweetened tea for so long, that drinking it the way I used to make, my mother, aunts and most of my other maternal relatives drink it, I just don't like any more. And unlike so many of my family, I want my coffee black and one of the Starbucks Extra Bold blends. I suppose some of that is the result of not living in areas where Sweetened tea was the norm. But I may just get used to drinking it once we move back to So. Illinois this summer. > Just FYI, Mc's now has sweet tea in Michigan.
