Guest guest
Teri, I am so sorry to hear of the added misery. It sounds like you probably did injure that knee in some way. Of course, with fibro, alot of us just put things off because we either think it is fibro related and will let up, or that the doctors won't believe us, OR what you are saying about more and more medical bills. It must be horrid pain. It almost sounds like some kind of nerve compression the way you describe the pain. Honey, as for medical bills, I have a big share of those I can't pay either. I believe most people do with a chronic illness. I don't know what they can do except turn it to collections... of course if you have good credit I know that is something you don't want. But your health has to come first. I cannot tell you how many ER visits I have had or my kids have had that I simply have no money to pay for. It is the sad state of affairs in this country with healthcare. Especially when you have NO insurance or you have a high deductible as you do. I just wish that a country as big and rich as America would figure out how to help their own sometimes. We help everyone else. But Americans that work and pay taxes cannot even afford to get healthcare. Love and hugs, Debra V. Subject: more on the plate To: Fibromyalgia_Support_Group Date: Friday, April 25, 2008, 9:47 AM Hi everyone, Haven't been on much - been dealing with another pain issue which I don't think is related to my fibro. The last month or so - maybe two, I've been dealing with a sharp pain on the inside (left side) of my right knee. It also tends to shoot down my inner calf to my foot and up the back side of my thigh. The sharp pain is bad - it hurts to bend it or straighten it out from a bent position. Walking doesn't help much either, so I think I did something to it - not sure if it's a ligament or a tendon or what - but there definitely is a problem. Hubby and daughter keep telling me to go get it checked out since it just seems to be getting worse - but I'm so stubborn about having more medical bills to pay that I haven't gone yet. I have a $5,000 deductible so it will all be out of pocket - not only the office visit, but I'm sure they're going to want to do an x-ray or God forbid - the expensive MRI. I'm still paying for an MRI from a year ago on my back that wasn't covered by insurance. I hate medical bills and insurance companies which I've been trying to keep up with all the med payments, but not every provider wills settle for what you can afford to pay and I'm afraid some of them will end up sending up to collection which just leads to more stress - vicious circle. Sorry - I'm cranky and in more pain than normal this morning. Not only from the lovely rain and the fibro flare but also this stupid knee pain. I know what the answer is - I need to have it looked at. I kept telling my husband I was going to ride it out and see if it got better but it's doing just the opposite. Exactly what I don't want. Even all my meds aren't helping - so I know if I wasn't taking anything, I'd probably be screaming. I've been doing all the recommended stuff - rest, ice, elevation, anti-inflammatories , but nada. I know, I know - go to the doctor. Yuck. Just venting. Teri (central Wisconsin)
Guest guest
Terri, I have had the exact same pain and went to my rhuemy with it. do you have a kind of bubble or lump-even a small one, on the side of your knee...like slightly lower than center? it is a bursitis. my doc gave me a cortisone shot and said 20 minute heat a couple of times a day and capsaicin. (btw, the capsaicin is way too hot for me on my knee, but it did help) -ang more on the plate > > Hi everyone, > > > > Haven't been on much - been dealing with another pain issue which I don't > think is related to my fibro. Guest guest
Hi Teri - I'm sorry to hear of your new (sort of) knee pain. I hope the doctor turns out to be not too expensive. You hang in there. Jeanne in WI
Guest guest
Hi Ang - No bump. Don't think its bursitis - have that it my shoulders. It's definitely a sharp pain and affects the way I move my leg - bending, walking, straightening, and turning. Went through something similar with my shoulder which resulted in surgery - torn bicep tendon, bone spur and torn rotator cuff (not saying I need surgery here) but this is definitely a " I think I did something to it, Doc, " kind of pain. If a shot would do it, I'd definitely take it. Have had those before in numerous places and except for my lower back and torn bicep tendon in my shoulder, they seemed to work. I use the capsaicin patches on my lower back and they do get hot, but seem to help in that area. Haven't tried it on my knee though, it's kind of in a place where it would probably not stay put. I could probably cut in and piece it together and give that a try in the meantime.
