Guest guest
Hi, I was wondering if any of you have tried any alternative things to help with the pain and sleep? If so, can you tell me what they were and how they worked? I went to the YMCA to day and signed up for an aquatic class for people with arthritis. I'm hoping that will help. I sure cannot take a lot of those meds anymore. I was sick as a dog trying to get off some of them and I don't want to go though that again. As you can imagine, I'm in pain. Walking is such a chore, even with my cane. Tigger (Ruth) in Rhode Island
Guest guest
Hi Tigger - For sleep, have you tried benadryl or melatonin? I can only take a half dose of benadryl as a whole dose will wire me up instead of making me sleepy. I used melatonin when I ran out of Ambien. It worked, but often left me feeling hungover in the morning. I hope you find something that helps. Take care. Guest guest
Hi Ruth, I did the water aerobics for arthritics when I was first diagnosed. I think it helped, but the people all complained so much about how horrible they felt (none of them had FM), that I started to become very negative and " un-hopeful " about my pain. So after 3 rounds (about a year or so), I stopped going. I also tried acupuncture (not very helpful for me, though I know others who had better results), massage (felt good at the time, but no lasting effects), and homeopathic injections of Traumeel into the trigger spots (a little effective). For a long time I was taking Fibroplex (nutritional supplements) and that really helped almost immediately. Then I got lazy and stopped taking them. When I went back to it, it didn't seem to work anymore, but maybe the pills were just too old. Maybe I'll try them again... About 3 years ago I found Sympathical's Fibromyalgia lotion and that has worked pretty well. On my very bad days, I'll pull it out and I do get some substantial relief. It's a small bottle, but a tiny bit goes a very long way. It's just very hard to find. Can't wait to hear others' experiences! Guest guest
Oh, I forgot that my cousin swears she had FM and did a series of rolfing sessions that cured the FM. I have never had the money to do the full series, so I haven't tried it. Also, on the revolutionealth website, FM people rate meditation and yoga as being extremely helpful.
