Guest guest
I know a lot of people are helped by hot showers and baths. I can't tolerate them. For some reason, like a massage, even though it feels great while it is going on, I hurt like Hell for about two days afterward. I have to do luke warm showers. I do a lot of relaxation exercises and try to take a nap. If I can take a short nap it gets better. Guest guest
I don't think my pain behaves the way you describe. Nevertheless, have you tried using pain patches such as Salonpas or cremes like Aspercreme or BioFreeze? Have you ever used prescription Lidoderm patches? Also, does taking hot baths help? Guest guest
Thanks , So far no one else has " got it " when I described it like I did below. Or maybe it just got missed. Drs look at me like I'm crazy if I describe it like that so I just tell them 'it hurts' and then they think I'm another crazy woman (which I am) " drugseeking " (which I'm not)- I mean I do want the drugs but only for the pain, not for 'fun'. Guest guest
I know exactly what you mean. I dont know how to describe it... bit I understand it. For me, I cant say its exactly PAIN for me... as much as its almost snewhat vague, but not. Its like extreme discomfort, then gets worse as time goes on and becomes really painful... But when you said " muscles getting denser " i understood what you were talking about. Its going on with me right now. I just took pain meds for it. I dont know what it is though, except that its part of fibro, brcause Sharon (my fibro mentor.. a lady at church that has had it for 20 years and has helped me alot in the past) described it exactly the same way. Sometimes an epson salt bath thats super hot helps, sometimes not. Sorry I cant be more help than.. I understand how you feel. -Suzanne > > Not like getting the Flu- not achey. > > Not muscle spasms. > > Not muscle tightness (like too much yardwork). > > Feels like muscles are getting denser. > > Feels like muscles are pulling together; turning inward; fibers rubbing against one > another. > > Pain will come next. > > What helps? any suggestions other than pain meds? > > I know this is physical and not psychlogical. > > PEACE > Cassandra >
Guest guest
Hi Cassandra, I do understand!!! It feels like my whole body is skrinking from the outside in and I just want out!!! Very unpleasant tingling sensation and muscles all knotted up and do what they want to. I am seeing neurologist tomorrow because Friday night my arms and legs acted like I was a puppet and someone was pulling my strings. Then, when I started to stand it was like the puppeteer cut the strings!! Then it threw me into a massive anxiety/panic attack and I went to ER. Good luck hun and I hope you can get some help!!! Guest guest
I can't have the panic attacks - someone in my hh has to have a clear head. The night that the pain was so excruciating was NOT due to my fibro, although I'm sure it exacerbated it in the days to come, it was due to renal insufficiency causing leg cramps which, after a few tests, revealed that I had a blood clot! If I had panicked, no one would have understood what I was talking about - I was so swollen from the extra fluids that my skin started splitting at the ankles and the doctors thought I was " scratching " from a bug bite (I wasn't). Besides which, my DH, who is normally calm, cool and collected almost to the point of being blunt, tends to panic, especially when his wife says " honey, I think we better call 911; there's something wrong here " as she is laying more than half-naked on the floor because that's where she landed when she thought she was passing out. So even when the pain comes on suddenly, or something weird happens, I try to remain calm as possible because I have to be able to explain what is going on, especially since its my body, you know? Did that make sense? I haven't hit my caffeine stride yet. Darlene > > > > Wow... I thought I was the only one that did that... painicing about > > the pain. Guest guest
Drs. don't seem to understand. You might try massage therapy. I did that once because someone gave me a free massage and it did feel better but it needs to be more frequent than once in a while. ~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Your Avon Representative Shop for all of your Avon needs at youravon.com/michellebyrd http://michellebyrd.avonrepresentative.com/> Reasonable shipping rates if you would like your order shipped directly to you _____ From: Fibromyalgia_Support_Group [mailto:Fibromyalgia_Support_Group ] On Behalf Of wenzdai Sent: Wednesday, April 30, 2008 5:17 PM To: Fibromyalgia_Support_Group Subject: Re: " Pain: Anyone else feel it come on like this? Guest guest
I guess the first time one of my doctors prescribed valium was because I was hyperventlating at work --- pain was sooo bad in my sterum! I was not very happy when the doctor at the emergency room where she told me to go as she had a meeting and I didn't have time to get to her office. I took the script but did not get it filed until she told me it was also a muscle relaxant!!! But it was also the last time anyone stole my wallet while I was waiting for a bus during the years I lived in Chicago! I was so oblivous of my surroundings because of the pain! Now I take valium if I have pain that might keep me awake. Of course, my shrink here insisted she be in charge of that med!!! Oh, well, what ever way to get it. And now I have to type up the list of meds I take so I can give it to the eye doctor this afternoon. I am now up to 3.75 in reading glasses! > > > > > > I have that constantly. Guest guest
Oh, yeah! That is how it is. I feel like my chest is on fire and it spreads out from the front to the back and finger tip to finger tip. breathing hurts my head hurts, my eyes everything. My instant reaction is to hold very still. I kind of look around slowly to see if anyone can see what I feel. This was one of the arguements I had with my son in law and my mom. They don't think I'm in that great of pain. I don't act like I'm in pain. So what does someone in pain look like? I asked them this. I said i would do my best just tell me what it looks like. I told them to flop on the floor or moan and cry only made it worse. What does being in pain look like? If it could be messured like a thermomiter we would blow the end off. If the worst pain is a 10 and no pain is a 0 what would yours be. I usually tell them about 8 or 9. Then they say " No I mean now that you've had tylenol. " or what ever they gave out. They look like your nuts when you tell them that is how you feel with those drugs. DUH! Jan > > Wow... I thought I was the only one that did that... painicing about > the pain. Guest guest
hi Cassandra, I am usually a lurker on the boards, but your post sounded so familiar to me. I have FMS but it is a result of another disease that I have. I'm 25 and have been living with this for the last 6 years. Finally it got so bad in the past year I sought help. It took me so long to find the best combination for my pain. First I was just given an endless prescription for Lortab. Of course that does nothing for the pain most of the time. Then I was put on a pain patch, it was great for the pain, but it was terrible for me. I gained weight and would sleep way too much. After being on all of these medications I finally decided to stop taking anything that is an opiate. I just cannot form an addiction to something like that. It controls you whether you admit it or not. I am glad you specified " besides pain meds " . The one thing that has helped me is taking a Flexeril every night before bed. It puts you in stage 4 sleep (that most of us aren't getting with FMS)and it relaxes your body so your muscles can repair. It took about 2 weeks for me to see a major difference, but boy was it major. I take that and a Lexapro 10mg every night and it keeps me feeling way better than I used to. I hope you can find your combination of activities and medications that will keep FMS in check. (((hugs)))
