Guest guest
The thing is - we had to expect that prices on groceries would go up, especially since our food is trucked in from all over the U.S. and the gas prices are ridiculous. Eventually, the consumer (us) will pay the price, whether at the pump or in the grocery stores. I think this is similiar to the weather reports where snow and/or ice is predicted and folks go out and buy the shelves clean of bread and milk. Where on earth am I going to hold 3 months worth of bread? My freezer is full of meats. My pantry is full of canned goods and veggies. I think this is a scare tactic and unfortunately, it will work, to an extent, and hurt the middle class and those on significantly limited budgets. Rice can be a staple to the American diet - I know my DH ate a lot of it covered with soup (cheap but nourishing meal). Folks on limited budgets (like pretty much everyone here) are already doing what they feel necessary to take care of their family. Want my suggestion? Check into Angel Food ministries (website is angel food ministries dot com - delete the spaces) and find a church or host site that sells this. Each " unit " is $30 and has an array of dry goods, frozen goods and meats. Plus there are reasonably priced specials. For the singles on the list, a unit could concievably " cover " you for a month, that's how much food there is! And the best thing is, you don't have to join a particular church or anything, it is literally a vision that the Wingos had to help feed the world. They take food stamps, checks, cash for payment. And the food is good and nutritious. Darlene > > > > To Debra and all, > > > > From everything that I am reading, they are saying that we need a 3 > month > > supply of food and water stored. Guest guest
My Mom and Dad get that $30 bundle through Angel Food Ministries every month. It has been a great help since they are on a strict fixed income. She tried to get me to do it but I just felt ashamed to get food from them when I am working full time, unlike so many others who have lost their jobs or can't work. N. Guest guest
, No need to feel ashamed to use Angle Food as a supplement to your food budget. I have used them several times myself and I work full time. Angel Food is a ministry to help anyone that needs the help, not just those who are down and out so to speak. With the cost of food going through the roof, this is an excellent way to help cut down your costs. Please do not be ashamed to use them. Christi Randall www.singingwomenoftexas.com Re: Rice??? N. ------------------------------------ 1. While it is wonderful to share our experiences with everyone on the list as to what treatments do and don't work for us, pls always check with your dr. Some treatments are dangerous when given along with other meds as well as to certain health conditions or just dangerous in general. 2. If you are in a difficult situation (doesn't matter what it is) pls don't be afraid to ask for help. It is the first step to trying to make that situation better. 3. To unsubscribe the e-mail is: Fibromyalgia_Support_Group-unsubscribe 4. Also, it is not uncommon for more than one member to be feeling bad at the same time when it comes to flares and b/c of that potentially take something another member says the wrong way. And that includes the things that one member may find funny (even if it's laughing at fibro itself) even though we who deal with illness whether one such as fibro or multiple illnesses try to keep a sense of humor. 5. Pls let's be gentle with each other, and if you are having a bad day pls let us know so that we can do our best to offer our support. Have a nice day everyone. The flip side of this is that those of us who are more fortunate should be contributing to such groups and food banks in the same proportion. The humanitarian aid groups around the world are being hit as hard by the price increases as anyone else. I'll be thinking long and hard on this one. Z, still in the flare from heck and *not* going to work in the garden today because it's raining anyway
Guest guest
, The beauty of Angel Food ministries is that EVERYONE, regardless of their income or anything, can buy this - there is no qualification other than you have the means to pay the $30! We use it and DH works full-time and up until I went out on medical disability, so did I! Darlene > > My Mom and Dad get that $30 bundle through Angel Food Ministries every > month.
