Guest guest
Does this doctor think fibromyalgia is not a handicap??? I have news for him... it is. It can be more debilitating than alot of other diseases or conditions that they give out handicap stickers for. It is the same old fight.... " I cannot see your disease, so therefore it must not be that bad " ... Uh Oh.. I am getting on my soap box again. LOL. hugs, Debra V. Subject: Re: Good Morning To: Fibromyalgia_Support_Group Date: Thursday, May 1, 2008, 3:58 PM I've been fighting tooth and nail to get a handicapped parking permit, and had to tell the doctor point blank that I was not requesting, asking for, or pleading for it,...I was demanding it. I haven't been to the mall in 2 years, the walk from the parking lot to the front doors by itself just kills me. Those permit slots close by the front doors sure look inviting. I would really love to be able to get one of those electric scooters to zoom around in. I still have a lot of living to do, and will take advantage of anything that helps out. ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Guest guest
You know, when my pulmo doc put me on restrictions as far as walking, he had absolutely NO problem signing the paperwork so I could get a handicap placard (Rock star parking). Now that I've added fibro and DVT to my mix of issues, well, it has come in handy on more than one occasion and I have wondered if I should push for the plate too. I am with on this one. I have lots of living left to do and well, I'm going to figure out a way to do it, even if it involves using a scooter in a bigger store. I'm not quite ready to get a " hoveround....lol " but who knows? Maybe next year. In the meantime, I am doing a lot of stuff on my own to change my eating and add foods that won't hurt my diabetes but provide natural anti- inflammatory relief. One less pill. Taking the probiotics has already enabled me to stop taking the protonix. Hmmm...... I'm ready to get the Hoveround that you can take on the highway, the one you can take to the dragstrip, the one that you can lay out " Beacon strips " at the mall, the one where people will be sorry they got in my Fibromyalgia way, the one that has the word " Interceptor " some where in its designation. This doctor almost found out that it would be hard for him to function day to day with one of my size 12 boots sticking out of where he sits. Guest guest
I mentioned it to my doctor and he didn't hesitate. It's really been helpful for me. Especially at like Costco. I had stopped going because the walk from the parking lot (it's ALWAYS crowded) would do me in and then there was the walk around the store still. So now I at least do go there. Have not been to the mall shopping in years I could not afford a scooter so that's out for me. hugs debra van ness ladybug75901@...> wrote: Does this doctor think fibromyalgia is not a handicap??? While it is wonderful to share our experiences with everyone on the list as to what treatments do and don't work for us, pls always check with your dr. Some treatments are dangerous when given along with other meds as well as to certain health conditions or just dangerous in general. 2. If you are in a difficult situation (doesn't matter what it is) pls don't be afraid to ask for help. It is the first step to trying to make that situation better. 3. To unsubscribe the e-mail is: Fibromyalgia_Support_Group-unsubscribe 4. Also, it is not uncommon for more than one member to be feeling bad at the same time when it comes to flares and b/c of that potentially take something another member says the wrong way. And that includes the things that one member may find funny (even if it's laughing at fibro itself) even though we who deal with illness whether one such as fibro or multiple illnesses try to keep a sense of humor. 5. Pls let's be gentle with each other, and if you are having a bad day pls let us know so that we can do our best to offer our support. Have a nice day everyone.
