Guest guest
I know that a lot of times if I have to go to the ER for something I do not even tell the doctors that I have Fibro. I think they believe like most that the pain is in your head and they ignore what is happening. I made that mistake once. I went in with extreme cramps in my legs. Both legs with the cramps going from inner thighs to my calves. It was bringing me to tears and screams and a lot of @#!#!. The doc did lab work and virtually just threw a script for pain meds at me. That is not what I wanted, I wanted to know WHY was this happening and he was putting it off to fibro. Well after I saw my PC and he showed me a copy of the labs I went wait a minute. My blood sugar was only 110 on these labs, which is normal, but just two hours prior I had taken insulin because my blood sugar had been 420. He said that what happen was that with the rapid drop it caused the cramps. If the ER doc had just discussed the labs with me we could have figured it out. He blew me off instead and put it off to me being a crazy lady. Now I always ask for one specific doc that works there and knows me. He listens. He even argued with a nurse one time when I was having really bad seizure because she wanted a CT and he all ready knew that I had a brain tumor and that we are not doing anything with it. He looked at the nurse and told her it would not change his treatment plan to stop the seizures. He knows that I am a do not resuscitate. He honors my wishes and treats me with respect. I wish all doctors could be like this but so many just do not understand people who live with pain on a daily basis. I am lucky that I have a great PC. We knew each other as colleagues when I was a paramedic. I was glad when he opened a family practice down here. He never just comes in the room and starts poking around he sits down and listens first. Don't you wish they would all do this?
Guest guest
Sounds like you found at least ONE good doctor. I wish they would all try to listen to their patients. Sometimes I believe that they already have their minds made up about us before they even walk into the room. hugs, Debra V. Subject: Fibro Pain and doctors. Guest guest
I was lucky to find such a sweet PC. I was pregnant for the 5th time and 4 miscarriages one night and could not locate my other half (before we all had cell phones) I thought I was going to lose this baby too. He crawled up on the stretcher and held me while I cried and told me he would do anything he possibly could to make sure we had this baby. Most ER docs are not going to put themselves out for a patient like that. I knew without a doubt when he opened his family practice I was going to him. His attitude has never changed. When I started getting sick he was always there for me and if he didn't know the answer he would say so and find someone who could help. I think that is why I was dx so fast compared to most people. He listens and I wish I could clone him and send him to each of you. I know my mom got so close to him that even after she moved 4 hours away that when she comes into town they always meet up with each other and go out to dinner. > > Sounds like you found at least ONE good doctor.
