I wish I could keep that word in my head! Anyway, lots of turkey, gobble gobble. Gave some turkey to my grandson while he was here, hoping to calm him down a bit. I fear he is a little ADHD............UGH!!!!!!!!! DebbieL
Guest guest
Has anyone ever heard that if a child is ADHD that GIVING him caffeine will have an opposite effect as it would if you are not. Like coffee gives me a " high " so to speak " but with someone with ADHD, it would calm them. Jean

Don't doubt it for a minute. I'm wondering now if it is working opposite for him, just like the antidepressants on my depressed daughter when her disorders were active. Made her worse. Guest guest
Jean: Yes...to the opposite effect thing.. when my daugther was on ritilin (26-27 years ago-man they should have come up with something better by now!) my daughter was staying at my Mom's during the day while I worked. So my mother administered the ritilin. She started giving it to my Dad because she thought he was too slow (the other side- ADD)..and it sped him up! Mom loved it.. giving him chores and he'd get them all done!! Re: Re: Turkey, the calming white meat:) not caffeine, per se but that is why children with ADHD are given stimulants such as ritalin or adderall. these are stimulants and they have the opposite effects in individuals who have ADHD -- the stimulants slow them down somehow, where in those of us who don't have ADHD, the drugs would make give us a rush. adderall pills sell for anywhere from $12-20 a pill on college campuses these days and the kids crush them and snort them. cascorsam@... wrote: Has anyone ever heard that if a child is ADHD that GIVING him caffeine will have an opposite effect as it would if you are not. Guest guest
That is absolutely true. In my early teaching days, I had a boy who was so hyper he would practically climb the walls. He family couldn't afford medication so when he arrived to class I had a thermos of coffee waiting for him (he was a teen). It worked wonders, I'd have to make sure he didn't drink too much or he'd fall asleep. When my daughter was in middle school she would be so hyper between the hours of 5 to 10 that I would have her drink this soda called Jolt. It has something like 3 or 4 times the caffine than other drinks. It definitely calmed her down. cascorsam@... wrote: Has anyone ever heard that if a child is ADHD that GIVING him caffeine will have an opposite effect as it would if you are not.
