Guest guest
Hello, Dena. Everybody's story is different but here' my 2 cents I'm not sure you really need to see a Rheumatologist. From what I understand, Rheumatologists are typically the ones who do most of the tests to rule out other illnesses and do the diagnosing. If you've been diagnosed with Fibro, I believe your regular doctor can treat your fibro. I do know that some people see specialists ie: Rheumatologists, Neurologists, Pain Medicine docs, etc. for their fibro treaments, but I don't believe they are necessary for your treatment unless your regular doc dosen't want to treat you for it. My Family Practice doctor is treating me for mine. That being said, ask your regular doctor and see what they have to say about it. Take care. FINALLY, my doctor just announced that I most definitely have fibro after my latest round of complete blood workup. Everything was normal except my ANA was ever-so-slightly elevated. For now he started me on 30mg/day of Cymbalta however I can't take it yet because my insurance company is giving me fits about authorizing it (Medical Mutual). My doctor did not refer me to a rheumatologist but I'm wondering if I should consider that. .
Guest guest
Dena, I would say that if your primary care physician is able and capable of treating you for your fibro, then why go to a specialist? The reason a lot of folks go to specialists (rheumys, neuros, etc.) is because the primary care physician, while likely sure of the dx, wants the " expert " in that field to make the call (mine told me it was to ensure the insurance didn't have an issue; they have felt all along I had fibro!). I am seeing a new rheumy next week, but I know if I am in pain now, I can go to my PCP and because fibro is in my file, they will give me something to help me out.
