Guest guest
Welcome Dena! Nice to meet you. It sounds like you have had your share of health problems over the past few years. I am a 38 year old married mom of 1. My daughter is eleven. We live in Pennsylvania. Within in the past two years, I was diagnosed with diverticulosis and fibromyalgia. I didn't know it at the time, but I had both symptoms for some time. I went to my regular doctor for my fibro symptoms. After running many tests (as I'm sure you know! lol...), they still didn't know what was wrong with me, so she referred me to a rheumatologist, who also ran ALOT of tests and tried me on many medicines, finally diagnosed with fibromyalgia in December of '07. My rheumatologist placed me on Lyrica and I also had trouble getting my insurance to cover it. My doctor had to send in papers declaring that it was medically necessary, etc... This group has been a godsend to me, giving me alot of info. I think you will love it here. I too, purchased several books on this disease and they've helped me as well. Once again, welcome and I hope you have a blessed Mother's Day! Gentle Hugs, Kristi > > Hi to everyone! While it is wonderful to share our experiences with everyone on the list as to what treatments do and don't work for us, pls always check with your dr. Some treatments are dangerous when given along with other meds as well as to certain health conditions or just dangerous in general. 2. If you are in a difficult situation (doesn't matter what it is) pls don't be afraid to ask for help. It is the first step to trying to make that situation better. 3. To unsubscribe the e-mail is: Fibromyalgia_Support_Group-unsubscribe 4. Also, it is not uncommon for more than one member to be feeling bad at the same time when it comes to flares and b/c of that potentially take something another member says the wrong way. And that includes the things that one member may find funny (even if it's laughing at fibro itself) even though we who deal with illness whether one such as fibro or multiple illnesses try to keep a sense of humor. 5. Pls let's be gentle with each other, and if you are having a bad day pls let us know so that we can do our best to offer our support. Have a nice day everyone. Guest guest
Welcome to the group that understands fibromyalgia. It is our home because it is the only place most of us can come to talk about this with others who understand. You need to find a doctor who is willing to prescribe more than an antidepressant for fibromyalgia. (although, I have heard that Cymbalta helps some people with the pain of fibro). BUT, most of us require pain meds, muscle relaxers, tranquilizers at times and some other meds depending on the symptoms. Lyrica would have been a good start for him to prescribe. I know it is expensive and your insurance might give you fits about it before they approve it. Lyrica has helped me some... but it is not a cure by any stretch of the imagination. It just seems I do not have to take quite as many pain pills most days and have more energy than I did before I started it. I can actually do things on my off days from work that I NEVER could have done before I started it. My advice, find another doctor. Or, see if he will work with you to get you on some meds that help. hugs, Debra V. (East TX) Subject: Hello, I'm new..... Guest guest
Hi Dena- Welcome to the FaMily. You're in the right place. We all know what you are going through. A rheumatologist is only necessary if you feel you aren't getting proper care from your doctor. My insurance requires extra info. for practically every expensive name brand med these days. I hope the Cymbalta is approved and that it helps you. I take 60 mg. twice a day, but the norm is 60 mg. a day for adults. Once you get on the Cymbalta if you don't feel it helps enough, then you can ask for muscle relaxers, pain meds, and possibly Lyrica. If your doc is willing to prescribe, then you're in good shape doc-wise. I hope this helps some. Please write and ask questions whenever you need to. That's what we are here for.
