If I went to the drugstore to pick up occasional items, I would sometimes drive to two or three before I could bring myself to get out of the car. I would get the most terrible anxiety. I was afraid to go to the dry cleaner, the bank, and my bills were often late because I was afraid to go to the post office. My meds shrink finally pointed out that every step I took was agony because of my knees, and I was in constant unbearable pain. She indicated, not in so many words, that I'd be nuts if I *wanted* to go through that. My mind was subconsciously telling me what I couldn't consciously admit - that it just hurt too bad. I don't question your diagnosis at all, but I wonder how much a condition like this is exacerbated for us by the amount of pain that we experience, and if it's the mind's way of working with the body to reduce our level of activity to what our pain load can handle. I hope that you get good treatment for the pain, and that the other issues simmer down as well. Z
Guest guest
Hi Jeanne, Yes Agoraphobia is fear of leaving the house. I guess there must be different degrees because I've only heard about the one in which you are so terrified of leaving your home that you just can't do it. Even opening the door for someone can cause a severe panic attack. That is why that even though I don't like to leave my house (vehemently), since I am not afraid to and can walk to the mailbox and around my yard and go to the store, I don't think I have it. Most people who have it can't even do that. It's very sad. Marti Jeanne and Dave djgraves9497@...> wrote: Are you afraid of leaving the house? I thought that was what agorophobia was.
