Guest guest
I snore, thrash, talk, walk all in my sleep. I also have GERD- severe enough that I have had several episodes of loosing the ability to speak for up to a week, due to acid reflux intomy vocal tract. My vocal cords are permenantly damaged and what used to be a professional quality singing voice is realy creaky and I no longer have full range ( a devastating loss for a vocalist.) I have asthma including nightime episodes where I wake from dreams that a very heavy furry cat is sitting on my chest or face. My partner says that I sometimes stop breathing while asleep, then gasp and continue to snore. I am reluctant to have a sleep study. I do not want to be hooked to CPap forever, also another possibility is I still have my tonsils and adenoids and some docs like to go the surgical route for this problem, no thank you. Am I being irrational about this? I promise not to bite you if I disagree with your response. Guest guest
I don't have sleep apnea..but I do snore..I have GERD and my state insurance will not pay for Prevacid,Prilosec,Acifex,Nexium,etc..they only pay for 300 mg. generic Zantac..which sucks..I sleep til 3-4 if I sleep..in my recliner..then to bed. I also wake up with migraines..and my voice went deeper after a bad bout of bronchitis..and I am in my church choir. Mickey wenzdai wenzdai@...> wrote: I snore, thrash, talk, walk all in my sleep. Guest guest
Cassandra, Why would you be reluctant to be " hooked " to the cpap for the rest of your life IF it proved to help you? After all, just because you do the sleep study and possibly get the cpap, after using it for some time, you can always put it up as I did mine. Although I am getting mine back out to try using it again to see if it helps with my sleep. I would say go have the sleep study, find out how bad your sleep apena is, because if it is bad enough, you can die in your sleep from it. I am not saying that to scare you, but it is the truth and I would think that you would like to have an opportunity to prevent that if you could. Good luck with whatever your decision turns out to be. Christi Randall www.singingwomenoftexas.com Re: Sleep apnea and fibro/GERD I snore, thrash, talk, walk all in my sleep. Guest guest
Cassandra, I am also a professional singer since I was a teenager and I have had a devastating loss in my vocal range and lung capacity. It's been really hard b/c i am a perfectionist so I have had to 'break up' the band and am currently looking for new projects that are within my range. My voice is just hoarse now, i hate it. I have had gerd for a long time now. the nexium helps. i hate surgery, and I hope i can get the cpap machine and be done with it. so i know where you're coming from on that. but i think you should try the machine if you truly have the apnea. if its too confining then you can just not use it. but i am going to give it a good college try because i don't want to die like that... good luck on your decision. gentle hugs, Loretta > > I snore, thrash, talk, walk all in my sleep. > I also have GERD- severe enough that I have had > several episodes of loosing the ability to speak for up to a week, due to acid reflux intomy > vocal tract. Guest guest
Cassandra, My dream is that scene in the Perfect Storm where he's underwater in the midst of those great big huge waves; and I can't get my breath or I barely catch a breath before another wave takes me under. It's almost always water. No I don't think you are irrational, I've been avoiding the sleep study for several years now; that and my mammogram. I'm so clausterphobic I'm anxious about the sleep study and what it might result in me having to sleep with. I couldn't stand the wrist braces they wanted me to sleep in when they dx'd me with Carpal Tunnel years ago. Guest guest
I'm sorry to hear about your damaged vocal cords. As a fellow singer, I feel your pain. My voice is just plain out of shape as I rarely sing. You may be looking irrationally at your choices. I wouldn't want my tonsils out either, and I still have mine, too. I've heard that surgery is much tougher on adults than on kids. If your doc pushes for a sleep study, you might want to go for it. At least then you'd know for sure. Then you can choose if you want to deal with CPap machine, or risk dying in your sleep. Take care. Jeanne in WI I snore, thrash, talk, walk all in my sleep. Guest guest
Actually, it doesn't matter how bad your sleep apnea is - you can still die in your sleep. It can also cause strokes, high blood pressure, heart attacks and the like. If you feel that you have overcome your apnea because you lost weight or some other thing, then get another study done before you put up your machine " for good " . It's not worth your life! Guest guest
Christi, Have you let your oncologist know about your OSA? While it may not be possible for you to wear your cpap at night, perhaps they can come up with something? I understand you can only deal with one thing at a time and this current " thing " is obviously more important. You'll be in my prayers, girl. Guest guest
Cassandra, You should really get it checked out. If you are actually stopping breathing, that is not good. It can affect your health, your heart...do it girl. Re: Sleep apnea and fibro/GERD I snore, thrash, talk, walk all in my sleep.
