Guest guest
--------------------------------- BIG VIRUS COMING http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/postcard.asp Hi All, I checked with Norton Anti-Virus, and they are gearing up for this virus! I checked Snopes (URL above:), and it is for real!! Get this E-mail message sent around to your contacts ASAP. PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS! You should be alert during the next few days. Do not open any message with an attachment entitled 'POSTCARD,' regardless of who sent it to you. It is a virus which opens A POSTCARD IMAGE, which 'burns' the whole hard disc C of your computer. This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address in his/her contact list. This is the reason why you need to send this e-mail to all your contacts It is better to receive this message 25 times than to receive the virus and open it. If you receive a mail called' POSTCARD,' even though sent to you by a friend, do not open it! Shut down your computer immediately. This is the worst virus announced by CNN. It has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever. This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this kind of virus. This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept. COPY THIS E-MAIL, AND SEND IT TO YOUR FRIENDS. REMEMBER: IF YOU SEND IT TO THEM, YOU WILL BENEFIT ALL OF US. Snopes lists all the names it could come in. --------------------------------- --------------------------------- --------------------------------- Wondering what's for Dinner Tonight? Guest guest
So we do what if we get this 'POST CARD " ? Shut down the computer and then what? Couldnt'd we just delete the 'postcard'? I know nothing about computers except how to turn them on and off. Guest guest
Hi everyone! This is a real warning, but it went out almost a year ago, in June 2007. So, I'm sure there is a fix by now. P.S. This is why Macs are safer--there are so few viruses that affect them!! > BIG VIRUS COMING > http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/postcard.asp > > Hi All, I checked with Norton Anti-Virus, and they are gearing up for this virus! Guest guest
This email has been going around for close to a year. Norton and most other antivirus programs already have this in their database of viruses. Best thing to do is to make sure you have the latest edition of antivirus. in NM --------------------------------- Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo! Mobile. Try it now. Guest guest
hehe 20+ years a Mac user.. I think one time, there was this Mac " virus " .. You had to like.. WANT to get that thing.. You had to.. down load it, expand the file, give it authentication off your administrator password to access your system files, and then transmit back to the creator.. I think I actually did get the email that had it. i laughed so hard, as i threw it in the trash. That was my virus experience on my Mac. Oh and it only worked for people with OS 10.0 or before or something dumb like that so anyone who actually updated didnt have to worry. Dont remember the spacifics on that one but anyone who actually ran their software updater were automatically voided... So, in reality, hehe. 20 + years a Mac user, I've never had a virus. Hoping the trend continues. even so , its good to have firewalls and what not, and actually even Apple recommends you keep your administrator user seperate from the user you use on a daily basis, and keep a frequent back up(even for hard ware purposes) because well, you never know someone may get a hair up their you know what and make one.. But as of now, its a happy life. My very first computer that I used was a Mac Plus. That thing lasted forever. My family got it before i even REMEMBER! LOL and i had it till i was a TEENAGER, i used to write on it.. Until it just couldnt take it any more. Poor thing. I beat it into the ground. LOL. Right there with ya, Cassandra. -Nina > WE LOVE OUR MAC! Duck tape and all. The Dell Powerbook is under the > bed collecting > dust. Guest guest
CNN and others had a bout with the -Zotob- virus a few years back. People running Windows 2000 might remember their computers being infected and spontaneously re-booting over and over again. CNN was specifically targeted and the virus spread cross almost 90% of the Internet. Most of the virus infection at that time resulted from people -not- turning on " Automatic Updates " to receive the latest security updates from Microsoft. CNN's network administrators admitted that they had not activated the Automatic Update feature and we left vulnerable to an attack.
Guest guest
Don't open it, delete it. If it is an infected file, opening it will activate the virus code.
Guest guest
Thanks - I didn't know if I was suposed to delete it or just shut the computer off and call 911. Guest guest
Generally a well placed, " How dare you " or " How Rud-dah " followed by deleting the unopened email will take care of it.
Guest guest
I use both Mac and PC depending on the work I am doing. I use a 1ghz eMac for multimedia and my Ebay auctions. Regular daily workhorse tasks are done on the PC.

Guest guest
Ebay has been a saving grace, we are going to be able to make enough " extra " income off the auctions to pay the property tax.
