Guest guest
I love moments like that. You're right. When little things happen like that it doesn't matter to me what my scale says! Guest guest
The same thing happened to me. My skinny sister tried on my new leather coat just to see what smaller size she would need and guess what............ it fit her perfect!!!!!!!! I don't see myself as skinny, but she is. Am I the only one that feels that way? I still need to lose about 30 pounds. Judy a real tear jerker Ok guys don't cry or at least we're not supposed to. But seriously this is about as close to a feeling of just basic everyday joy sneaking up on me that I think I could share. I was thinking of leaving work around 4pm. My kids weren't in school so I didn't have to pick them up and was staying late on a Friday just doing nothing really. I was chatting up my fellow cube prisoners. A guy I've worked with for most of the eight years I've been there was in his cube, I commented on his leather coat, then another guy popped up and said he just got one and knew we both had them so we could all hang out together. Blah blah blah we kept talking and it was all fun. I picked up the first guy's coat and commented that it was pretty nice and hefty. He started talking about how it was a great coat with a great name and how he'd bought it one of the local long time department stores years ago (it's out of business now). I asked what size it was (I have no idea why). He said, " 44 " . Well I'm wearing my father's old 46 coat (because he's to big for it now haha) and I announce, " Hey I'll bet this would fit me " The guy had started to put the coat on just as a habit and put his hands in the pockets and says, " Oh I doubt that, come on " , starts to take it off and politely hands it to me. The other guy is in the cube now showing us his new jacket. I take the 44 coat. Put it on, no problem. Zip it up, NO PROBLEM and say, " Hey this is pretty nice, I like it. " The other guy's jaw is on the floor. I'm putting my hands in the pockets, checking the length on the sleeves, sort of noticing that the gathering on the waist while higher up than my coat's longer length, is still working and yet is kind of LOOSE in a way, maybe his coat is just a little used there I say. He starts to get a little concerned and says, " Ok take it off, give me my coat back. " I say, " hmm there seems to be things in the chest pockets here, what do you have going on here buddy? " He demands, " Right, take it off now, give me my coat back, it's not yours! " While he has it now I might just accidentally wear it some day again. After all both our coats are brown and fit me fine. You can see the confusion right? Guest guest
That is a GREAT story. I know after WLS, it's hard to recognize that you aren't a 4x or whatever anymore, but I never thought about other people having body dysmorphia (is that the right word?) towards you. I don't know if guys are like this, but if you were girls they would probably not like that you weren't the " fat one " in the group any longer. If you keep losing, the guy whose coat you tried on would be larger than you. From the way you described him, I bet that would just kill him. Just another incentive to keep the pounds coming off. There is one thing we disagree on and that's numbers. I love seeing the needle on the scale moving in a counter-clockwise direction. My scale has 4 little colored markers on it. I have one on my pre-surgery weight, one on my current weight, one on my conservative goal weight, and the fourth on my ultimate goal weight. I also bought a pair of jeans in my goal size on ebay as incentive. Those are going on my wall with my Large (as opposed to 4X) t-shirt that says " I know the voices aren't real but they have some really good ideas. " If it had come in a 4X, I would have worn it to my psych eval :-) in MI > > Ok guys don't cry or at least we're not supposed to. Guest guest
That is an awesome story Mike! Doesn't it feel wonderful? Too bad that green-eyed monster has to come out in some people, instead of them just being happy, they have to hate on you. That happened at my job, with a co-worker I was really close to but as soon as I was catching up to her in size, her attitude changed toward me. Oh well, her loss! And mine too- in pounds!!! LOL. Take Care, in CA
Guest guest
and Mike, I too had a cubbie mate snub me after surgery. It hurt, but I moved on. You guys are doing great! I love your posts!
Guest guest
I don't think he was hating on me. If anything he was stunned that he's the same size as me. Sort of doing some introspective searching as to how much he weighs and should he workout or what? HAHA for him. > > That is an awesome story Mike! Doesn't it feel wonderful? Too bad that > green-eyed monster has to come out in some people, instead of them > just being happy, they have to hate on you. That happened at my job, > with a co-worker I was really close to but as soon as I was catching > up to her in size, her attitude changed toward me. Oh well, her loss! > And mine too- in pounds!!!
