Guest guest
Loretta, I'm so sorry you went thru that when you were only a little 5 yr old! That's brutal!! You poor baby! I think children can be bipolar at 5, but do you think they can accurately diagnose it that young? My son is very hyper, can't focus on tasks, and can not control his impulses. He is a risk taker, but not to the degree where I feel he does outrageously dangerous things. He gets moody when he's tired and when he's upset with himself for doing something he knew he wasn't supposed to, but couldn't control himself. I feel this is due to be 5 yrs old, not bipolar. He has a temper, but does not go into rages and his bad moods only last a little while. I was a teacher and also have a degree in special ed. He has the classic symptoms of ADHD combined type. He could be the poster child for it. I have to admit, I'm not as familiar with bipolar disorder, but I have been researching it, and it does not sound like Karson. I hope you have it under control now. It sounds like a very hard disorder to deal with....especially on top of fibro! I really feel for you! It doesn't seem fair that one person has to deal with so much..... How old were you when you were diagnosed with bipolar? Did having that label effect your life negatively? Being a teacher, I know how labels on a child's record can have a negative effect on their life. I'm trying to keep ADHD off of Karson's school records. PLEASE let me know what herbal formula you have your son on!!!!! I would much rather have him on that then these dangerous ADHD meds!! Have you ever tried taken him off of wheat and dairy? I think I might try it this summer when Karson is not in school. It is going to be really hard, but I need to at least give it a try. I just don't know how you can keep doing it when a child is back in school and you have less control over diet. I know Karson would eat whatever he wanted to when I'm not around. He and his twin sister are obsessed with junk food which I keep to a minimum. Also, his new Dr. seems really strange. She seems like she has a severe mental disorder and is over medicated. I just don't trust her. We are moving soon, so we'll just stay with her until then, but I'm going to be careful with anything she says. She's really BIZARRE!! There is definitly something not right with her. Jeanne, I'm so sorry you went thru that with your daughter! That would terrify me too! How is she doing now?? Jill Loretta/children and meds Hey Loretta - My youngest daughter who is now 14 was put on anti-d's at age 7 or 8. It is very possible for children to have the chemical imbalances in their brains. I believe Allie spoke of wanting to die around that time as well, which scared the hell out of me, but she showed other sides of depression and she stole money from my purse, and other places she could find it. So, something else we have in common. Jeanne in WI Hello Jill! Thanks for the info on the aDDERALL. I think my pdoc will raise my provigil instead, because it has worked for focus in clinical trials. I have to see when I go to see her. It's funny because my son was dxed with ADD, they put him on adderall and I took him off because he lost too much weight. I have him on a herbal formula for children that I got from Whole Foods, and he is doing better. I was 14 when they dxed me with bipolar, but I know it was way before that I had it. Don't want to scare you, this is just my case. I remember being in kindergarten and wishing I could die. I think that if your son is having unmanageable or dangerous symptoms, it would not hurt to have him evaluated. I know many people feel 5 is too young for this, but they have not lived in my shoes. 5 may be too young for meds according to some, but 5 is also too young to live in a nightmare of emotions. But if you think he is fine, talk to the doc and see why he feels the need to eval him. Might just be a doc that likes to rush into diagnosis. Just my thoughts on it... gentle hugs, Loretta
