Guest guest
My friends teased me that I would start saying Y'all when I moved here. Well, I don't think so!! I'm originally from snotty land, a former school teacher and the former daughter of a Ph.d from Princeton who was an English professor. But, Y'all, I just can't help it....it just happens! Now, I think it's kinda cute..... Jill Y'all To: Fibromyalgia_Support_Group Date: Friday, April 18, 2008, 9:38 AM Yep the Y'all becomes part of the language down here in TX, lol. Guest guest
I get looks up here in Connecticut too. I grew up all over the southeast (army brat). 7Th grade was my 7Th school - and I wonder why I have a hard time with change now and making friends that I think will last. Anyway I lived in Georgia most of my life before we moved up here in 1982. Yes even though I've been up here that long, I still say y'all. Like you I'm not trying to lose my idiosyncrasies that I brought from the south. And I had parents who spoke well and I have a lot of education. So what. I like my y'all. I do wish I could pronounce the difference between pen and pin. I say them so that they both sound like pin. One of my daughter's friends named always tried to show me how to say it right, but I just couldn't. It sounds weird when I try. It's particularly confusing to sales clerks when I ask to borrow a pen and it come out like pin. Oh well - if that were the least of my worries.....
