Yes! This is an important point. I can't count on being able to cook on any given day because of the fibro pain. I'm also too wiped out by the evening to cook. So I cook once or twice a week. Mon. I cooked a chicken. Tues I made chicken salad out of some of the chicken, and cooked up bacon and breakfast sausage that I put in storage bags in the freezer. When I want bacon and eggs, I yank out a couple of strips of bacon and heat them up. Or crumble up in a salad. Tonight I sliced up the rest of a roast beast that I made last week, and made gravy from the broth from last week, and heated some of it for hot roast beef sandwiches, with mashed potatoes that I made last night. With the duodenal switch on top of fibromyalgia, I need to have good sources of protein available at all times. I have a roll of summer sausage and some cheddar in the fridge, and some grapes; a quick (and elegant) snack is a few slices of summer sausage and cheese, with some nice whole grain wheat crackers and a few grapes. Planning ahead helps to avoid diving headfirst into the first carb that you see when you walk in the door after work. Z
Guest guest
Hi Jan - Some bariatric surgeons want you to lose that 10% to make the stress of the surgery easier on your body/heart. Others are testing you to see if you can commit to a healthy diet. My surgeon did not require any such thing. I mean, if we could lose the weight, we wouldn't need the surgery to help with it, would we? You question about the Effexor - I found Effexor to be somewhat energizing versus Zoloft which I was on prior to that. My opinion is that your fatigue is because of the FM. Effexor is a tricky med, though. If you're late with a dose, or skip a dose, you'll feel it. It is one of the worst anti-d's to withdraw from. If in the future, your doc switches you to another kind, make sure you wean off the Effexor slowly while building up on the new one. I take Cymbalta now which I like very much. Oh, and back when I was on Effexor, I was also on Wellbutrin, but that didn't seem to improve my energy any, or help me to eat better, so my psychiatrist stopped that one. I hope I've answered some of your questions. Jeanne in WI Hi Saundra, My name is Jan and i'm new here but I'm very curious about the By pass surgery as I've been recoomended to have for many health reasons. One is the FM. Did you have the FM before or after? I have these " lumps " on my arms legs and some on my stomach. They all hurt. Some are big like a golf ball some are just tiny BB's. These are what really hurt the most. I was told some are fat deposits. Others are my muscles all bunched up. Either way only I can touch them. I guess what I want to know is do you have anything like that? If so did they start to go away after the By pass? This is what I've been counting on. And for anyone else that has had the By pass or similar. How the heck did you lose the 10% required to have the surgery. I'm having an awful time. My whole house hold is not on a regular schedule like the Cleavers seemed to be. My husband leaves super early in the morning and gets home super late. I work any where from 6:30 am to 12 am. depending on the schedule for the week. It's different every week. My kids are the same way. We are rarly home at the same time so eating a real meal is just plain hard to do. I was thinking of buying myself those Lean Quisines or something of that sort. Let everyone else fend for them selves. It's sink or swim! I want to lose weight, I really hate the way I am but I just can't seem to shut my mouth. Any ideas short of wiring my mouth shut? Or am I really not wanting this bad enough. I'm upset all the time betwwen the FM fog and pain to wanting to be able to go on a roller coaster or sit in a normal size chair anywhere. Just to be able to buy normal clothes that don't cost the extra 2 bucks or come from a specialty shop. I wouldn't be upset but I remember what it was like to be thin. I may not be model material but I was able to sit on the ground and get straight up. Now I would have to crawl to the nearest wall or tree and climb up slowly till the feeling came back in to my legs. I only have 4 months to lose the 35 pounds i need. They want to do the surgery in September or Oct. I started out good and lost 4 the first week. Now i struggle just to keep that off. I do still try the exersizing though. Maybe that will help. I'm just rammbling now. Sort of losing my train of thought so I'll shut up and wait for some help. Everyone take care, Jan Ok PS: Is it the meds that make us so tired? I take Effexor for the Bi Polar thing. I had it down from 150 mg to 75. Then the FM hit and I had it raised back up. I know that makes me tired. So is it the FM or the meds? I hate to think it's a double whammy. I really hate being tired. I like my mornings. I miss the mornings. Really leaving now before I think of something else.
