This is such an interesting thread. I have been diagnosed as Type II - my doctor

maintains there is no such thing as pre-diabeties - you either have Type II or

Type I which is the insolin dependant one. I had one fasting blood test above

100 - it was 108 and he started me on a low dose of Metformin 2x a day. I've

never had another one above 100 since being on the medication. I do have

neuropathy in both legs and feet and I think I have it in my hands also. It

showed up about 8 months BEFORE my blood tested over 100. I've also read where

you have diabetes 7.5 years before it shows up in your blood. With my weight I

was doomed from the start I guess :( It makes me sad to think I did this to

myself.

I am not following a low carb diet (no more than 45 per meal 3x a day and not

more than 15 per snack for up to 3x a day) and I have to say I feel much better

for it. I thought it would be hard but it's not.

I also do not have to test. I have a dreaded fear of needles!

Hinky-

All I truly know about it..is that the metfornim is supposed to help

your body break down the sugars that don't get broken down as they

should be.

My mother takes metfornim(sp)..too, and she is on 2000 mg a day. Her

doctor says she is true diabetic. But, of course he is going on what

her fasting blood sugar shows. I have asked her to request that he

give her the glucose test, just to see if she breaks it down slowly,

or not at all.

Funny thing about me is..I can take my blood sugar here at home, and

it is usually lower than it should be, sometimes in the 40's.

Then I don't even take my med for it. Same if it is in the normal levels.

Do you check your blood sugar?
