Guest guest
Well, there really is no answer to how to ask for pain meds. Unfortunately, they will either believe you or not believe you. I believe the ones that label us in such a way already have their formed opinions. These people will label anyone without a broken bone. These are the judgmental, narrow minded, " can't think outside the box " people. Just tell the doc how you feel and hope he will help you honey. Maybe he will. There are a few good docs out there who will consider the possibility that their patient may be in pain. hugs, Debra V. missy8632 missy8632@...> wrote: I may have asked this before, my brain is not always working. I went to see my PCP last week and he gave me an RX for Demerol. It has worked well in the past but not this time. I was taking percocet that we awesome, but it made me itch sooooo bad. I have an appt with a pain management doctor on Monday but only for a consult. I have a feeling he will not do anything and want me to come back in. My headaches and rib cage are killing me. I am thinking about calling my PCP but I am afraid. I had really bad headaches years ago and went to the ER. The doctor accused me of looking for a fix. Ummm.... My parents and husband were right there. So, ever since then I have been afraid to ask thinking I will be accused of being a dope fiend. It just sucks that there is no test that can prove FM or the amount of pain you are in. It is so subjective in nature. __________________________________________________
Guest guest
I was switched to a pain management doctor by my neurologist 5 years ago. I didn't have to tell this doctor how bad I felt....in fact I almost fell off the table when she told me how bad I feel. It is important to choose a pain management doctor who states in their literature they deal with FM as well as other conditions. If you see the ones who do not recognize FM then there may be a problem. I was lucky enough this doctor I am seeing states this in her handouts setting on the tables in her office. She is also affiliated with one of the large hospitals in the area I live in. Guest guest
Boy that's a great experience. I haven't been to a neurologist, but have thought about it. I've read some good things and some bad things about pain management doctors on this group. Some want you to deal with the pain using other methods instead of medication - that would be my luck to have one of those. I am so happy to hear this. Guest guest
Sorry I was having a fuzzy day when I tried to reply to the question about meds....I didn't have to ask for meds. She asked me what have I been taking and we took it from there, modified some of them and added some new ones. I also get trigger point injections. I will get them even if they only work for a few days sometimes. I think a few days with less pain is better than no days with less pain.
